While it is true that Martin “Rekkles” Larsson was on the Fnatic bench for much of the season, it wasn’t until a few hours ago that the Swedish legend’s departure from the Black & Orange organization was officially announced.

This marks the departure of one of the game’s 27-year-old legends after competing for over 10 years in the top tier of LoL worldwide. In addition, this also becomes the first time in his career that Rekkles is left without a team.

Likewise, we must also remember that this will be a new stage in Rekkles’ life and career. Remember that the 27-year-old Swede decided to jump from AD Carry to Support several months ago. As a result of that decision, Fnatic decided to send him to the bench, where he has remained ever since.

Fnatic and Rekkles officially announce their separation

Both Fnatic and Rekkles announced last October 12, 2023, on their respective Twitter/X accounts that they are officially parting ways.

Similarly, Rekkles’ official statement mentions what the Swede wants for his career: to compete at the highest level with his new role, Support. In addition, the Swede says that during the last 5 months, he has been preparing in the best way to perfect his new role and give everything in every game with the team that signs him.

On the other hand, Rekkles said he can make the best use of all his skills and qualities within the Summoner’s Rift in Support. Finally, the Swede said that from now on, he would be able to contribute better to the team and that his mission is to “step on the stage” of the Grand Final of a Worlds.

About Rekkles

All of us who follow the LoL competitive scene since its beginnings know perfectly what Rekkles can do at the highest level. However, this new adventure as Support can be challenging, as he goes from having an aggressive role to being a bit more passive.

Likewise, this may help the veteran to squeeze all the juice of his knowledge, experience, and skills to lead his next team to victory. However, this can also be a double-edged sword, considering that players who transition into their roles often do not have the expected level of play.

Rekkles has not had good recent years, as his departure from Fnatic in 2021 to join G2 was not as successful as he dreamed. However, in 2023, he returned home with the Black & Orange squad, but he only played the first Split, as the organization replaced them with Oh “Noah” Hyeon-taek.

The offseason of the LoL competitive scene has not yet started, so we must wait a few weeks to know the future of Rekkles. However, many teams in the LEC or even the LCS would love to have a piece like Rekkles in their lineups for next season.
