RedBull celebrates 25th anniversary of Age of Empires with $550K RedBull Wololo event

For the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the legendary RTS Age of Empires, Red Bull is set to host the final event of the Age of Empires tournament The Red Bull Wololo with $550,000 in prize money. Just like in previous editions, the LAN tournament will take place in a special setting — Castle Heidelberg in Germany. 

The Red Bull Wololo: Legacy 2022 marks the sixth edition of Red Bull’s Wololo competition and the biggest Age of Empires tournament to date. The LAN finale of the event is scheduled to run between October 21-30 in a transformed Castle Heidelberg to “bring players back to medieval times”. 

Participants 

The Red Bull Wololo: Legacy LAN Final will feature top Age of Empires players from around the world competing across Age of Empires I: Definitive Edition, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, and Age of Empires IV.

There have been many routes to qualification, spanning open qualifiers, community events, progression through official Microsoft and partner circuits, and direct invitations. Some of the biggest AOE names on the lineup include the last year’s Red Bull Wololo Champion Ørjan “TheViper” Larsen, as well as Kai “Liereyy” Kallinger, Darko “DuaT” Dautovic and Hamzah “Hera” El-Baher.

Age of Empires I: Definitive Edition

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition

  • Invited: DauT, Liereyy, Mr_Yo, TheViper

Age of Empires IV

Schedule and prize pool 

There will be three tournaments in total, each for one edition of the title, and each with its own prize pool. Here’s the schedule and prize pool distribution: 

Age of Empires I: Definitive Edition — $50,000

  • Final: October 29 

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition — $200,000

  • Group Stage: October 21 – 22  
  • Quarterfinals: October 23
  • Semifinals and Final: October 29

Age of Empires IV — $300,000

  • Group Stage: October 26 – 27
  • Quarterfinals: October 28
  • Semifinals and Final: October 30

Talent

The event will be hosted by some of the well-known AOE talent such as host Riley “RLYKNGHT” Knight along with casters “Winstons Waffles”, Keaton “Aussie_Drongo”, Darren “KillerPigeon” Elmy, Sven “Nili” Reichardt, Dave “Dave” Burchett, Daniel “MembTV” Molina and Tristan “T90” Berry. They will be joined by reporter Ellie “Ellie4k” and specialist Kevin “MapuTV” Kremser.

Red Bull Wololo: Legacy LAN Final will be broadcast live on Red Bull’s Twitch and YouTube channels on tournament days from 2 pm to 10 pm CEST. On Twitch, the event will be broadcast in English, German, and Spanish.
