We’ve known about PSG.LGD’s desire to change something ahead of the 2023 Dota Pro Circuit. But nobody ever thought that Wang “Ame” Chunyu would get benched. The player seems destined to be transferred to one of the other top Chinese teams. But the move is extremely risky for PSG.LGD.

Right now, LGD are down to just two players. Zhang “Faith_bian” Ruida retired at the end of last season and Zhao “XinQ” Zixing was removed from the roster, probably because he annoyed his coach too many times.

With Ame out of the active roster, PSG.LGD will need to find a new carry player who can replace him. And it won’t be easy at all.

About Ame

At a very young age, Ame has already achieved greatness in Dota 2. He finished The International four times in the top four and competed in two Grand Finals. Despite losing both, he’s obviously an extraordinary carry who cannot be replaced by a newcomer.

It takes years to master the position-one role and not anyone can do it. It takes a player with the right temperament and intellectual prowess to succeed. Plus the Chinese region has been hit by some severe restrictions imposed by the government. People under the age of 18 can barely play video games these days.

So where will PSG.LGD find the superstars they need to stay relevant not just in China, but the world as well? Internationally, we’ve already seen just how strong European and South American teams are. And very soon, they will be joined by SEA teams as well.

Ame’s next move will most likely be to join either Team Aster or Royal Never Give Up. It remains to be seen who will acquire his services. There’s also a small chance that he will leave China and go to Europe. Liquid and a few other teams are in need of a great carry and he would be perfect for their rosters.

Another option for Ame is to take a break. We’ve already seen a few other top Chinese players making this decision and there’s no reason why he shouldn’t think about his personal life at this point. He has already earned nearly $4 million just from tournaments alone.

Ame is sitting very comfortably right now and the incentive to play Dota 2 all day is probably not as strong for him as it was five years ago.

What’s next for PSG.LGD

The team that has dominated the Chinese region over the past five years is now at a crossroads. New players need to be found and the best options are already taken.
