In early February, Overwatch 2’s second competitive season ends, but the game still has significant balance issues affecting players’ competitive experience.

The developers have hinted that Season 3 will introduce some tweaks. These could help balance the three roles in the game, which is fortunate for some players, especially the main tanks.

Promise of tweaks

Developer Jared Neuss has stated that they are improving this passive skill. In response to a content creator’s concern about the loading rates of DPS ultimate skills in the current live game.

Changes of heroes

Blizzard announced before the Overwatch 2 final beta launch last summer that each hero position would have a unique passive ability. In addition, the hero DPS skill is also included, promoting the change of hero in the middle of the game. By switching characters mid-game, DPS players could retain up to 30% of their ultimate skill loadout.

This change encouraged counterattacking, a key component of Overwatch for years. But, again, this is something that sets it apart from other first-person shooter games of a similar nature.

While this change encouraged DPS players to change their lineups more freely during games, it also meant that choosing the ideal composition early on was not as crucial.

It also means that, on average, more ultimate DPS skills are being used in each combat.

Problems with tanks

Support heroes currently have some of the fastest ultimates charges in the game, so it seems that tanks are losing out for various reasons.

To defend their squad, they must be vigilant and prepared for more ultimates and diverse ultimates. And with the change that Overwatch 2 is now five-on-five, there isn’t even a second tank to help.

Since tanks no longer receive the 30% ultimate charge benefit that DPS receive when they switch, they have less incentive to counterattack than before. Supports can also change frequently and quickly build another ultimate during a fight.

Neuss added that the developers of Overwatch 2 are striving to streamline their procedure for informing the public about the game. Offering confidence that they are aware of the problem and are actively addressing it.

Executive product, Jared Neuss, commented on his Twitter account:

“We have plans for regular (weekly or biweekly) comms that will manifest soon.”

According to Jared Neuss, developers interact primarily in replies to Twitter threads. But information is getting lost easily. Similarly, he comments that they try to be more transparent about development difficulties and balance can help the Overwatch 2 community a lot.
