Movements continue in the Call of Duty competitive scene. After the end of the season with the victory of the Subliners in the CDL Championship 2023, the teams begin an extended offseason that is sure to be full of many changes.

As we mentioned recently, LA Guerrillas decided to drop three of their four players from the team’s starting lineup. However, this is not the only move, as OpTic Texas surprised many by releasing Daniel “Ghosty” Rothe and Cuyler “Huke” Garland.

There is no doubt that the team needs to turn their situation around at this point to begin forging a much stronger roster. However, it’s worth noting that Ghosty and Huke were the cornerstones of the team this season that just ended.

OpTic Texas announces that Ghosty and Huke will not return to the “Green Wall”

Through an official announcement on its Twitter account, OpTic Texas said goodbye to Ghosty and Huke, clarifying that the players will not be returning to the Green Wall for next season. As a result, the team will be looking for two replacements who are a perfect fit for Brandon “Dashy” Otell and Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro’s style of play.

As we know, come July 2, 2023, most players’ contracts will expire, so, more than likely, these are just the beginning of many moves in the CDL scene.

About Huke and Ghosty

All CDL fans know the level of play and experience of 2020 World Champion Huke. This experienced and talented player arrived at OpTic Texas in this very season, just days after the legend of the game and icon of the organization, Seth “Scump” Abner, announced his retirement as a professional. On the other hand, we have Ghosty coming into the team’s starting lineup in February when the organization decided to send Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal to the bench.

Both players performed very well for OpTic Texas throughout the season, especially in the last two stages. However, this was not enough, as OpTic, one of the favorite teams for Call of Duty fans, was runners-up in Major III and IV. In addition, the team completely fell out of the CDL Championship 2023, finishing between 5th-6th place.

Possible OpTic Texas signings

Now, following the departures of Huke and Ghosty, it appears that OpTic Texas has its sights set on two CDL stars, Zack “Drazah” Jordan and Dylan “Envoy” Hannon. Reports published by Jake Hale last June 21, 2023, detail that the team looks very favorably on this pair of signings, but they are currently under contract with LA Thieves. On the other hand, it is also worth noting that Amer “Pred” Zulbeari of the Seattle Surge is also one of the team’s possible signings.

There is no doubt that we are in for a really exciting few weeks in this Call of Duty League offseason. Teams are looking to make drastic changes to strengthen their squads for the new season and, most likely, for a new title, Modern Warfare 3.
