Optic Gaming continues to dominate Valorant Champions Tour Challengers Stage 2 with another striking performance. The reigning Masters from Reykjavík are one step closer to their second Master’s appearance after defeating Evil Geniuses 2-0 in the upper bracket semifinals.

Optic Gaming are on their way to securing another spectacular VCT season. With an excellent performance in the group stage, the team proved to be stronger than ever. Throughout the whole season, the roster showed a great form, putting on some of the most impressive performances.

Optic Gaming’s group stage performance

OpTic Gaming’s group stage run in the ongoing Challengers was marked by the confidence they acquired after winning the Masters in Reykjavík back in April. Pujan “FNS” Mehta and Victor “Victor” Wong put on a brilliant performance in their first game, thrashing the overpowered FaZe by 2-0 to win their first match.

The second game was a tough one for Optic, as breaking Cloud9’s defense, especially on Icebox, was never an easy task. However, OpTic’s aggressive approach rewarded them with a victory at Ascent, equalizing the series 1-1. The unorthodox play style of Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker helped OpTics close the third and decisive map with a significant victory.

In the third week, OpTic kept the momentum going by defeating Sentinels in a lopsided match. In the opening map, OpTic’s yay and Austin “crashies” Roberts utterly demolished Sentinels’ defenses, while Jimmy “Marved” Nguyen delivered the series-clinching blow with a fantastic performance at Bind.

As one of the most intriguing VCT group stage contests, OpTic faced Evil Geniuses after three straight wins. In the first map, EG crushed OpTic 13-8, putting them on the defensive.

OpTic, on the other hand, pulled off a 13-11 comeback on Split thanks to a game-changing performance by Marved and yay in the last moments. The squad maintained its domination in the Ascent as well, leading 8-4 at halftime. EG turned the tables in the second half, coming back from a 4-8 deficit to win the game 13-11. Despite their best efforts, OpTic was unable to avert the collapse, and the squad suffered its first setback.

The team quickly bounced back in the next match, showing great resilience and ability to learn from losses. They triumphed 2-0 against Luminosity Gaming in their fifth game, giving them a 4-1 record and a lot of confidence heading into the playoffs.

Unstoppable Yay and Marved

Since Chamber became prominent in professional play, Sentinel players have had a higher ranking on the leaderboard. OpTic Gaming’s yay is one of the most effective Chamber mains at VCT Stage 2. He finished third overall in K/D and average damage per round at the end of the group stage. In addition, yeah had the highest first-blood success rate and the third-highest ACS of all the players in the group stage.

While Valorant rewards strong and aggressive play, it requires a dependable and consistent controller who can successfully hold the backlines. Marved has proven to be an effective controller for OpTics thanks to his adaptability and fantastic utility work. He has been the team’s backbone, and his synergy with yay is another reason that enhances OpTics’ performance.

OpTic vs. XSET in a battle for a Masters spot

OpTic Gaming were seeded into the semifinals after finishing 4-1 in the group stage, where they met their old rivals Evil Geniuses. They took advantage of the opportunity to avenge their sole loss on the group stage. and hammered EG 13-5 on Breeze and 13-3 on Haven to clinch a 2-0 victory. With a ticket to Masters at stakes, Optic will next face XSET in the upper-bracket finals on June 25.
