Nigma Galaxy signs Matthew and Fbz

Nigma Galaxy tried to play with Ghost and rmN- for two weeks at the start of the new season, but after failing in two important qualifiers, they quickly realized that these two players were nowhere near the level required to do well against the strongest teams in the region.

The MENA region is not exactly the strongest in the world. In fact, many would argue that it’s one of the weakest. But in the BetBoom Dacha Dubai qualifier and then in the DreamLeague S22 qualifier, Nigma Galaxy finished 4^th when they should have won to qualify for the tournament.

Unfortunately for them, Team Falcons are also competing in the region, and their roster is full of formidable players. This competitor will be very hard to beat this year, but KuroKy probably hopes that at least some of the tier-1 Dota 2 events of 2024 will offer two qualification spots to the region.

Another option for him would be to find players who are strong enough to help him, Sumail, and Miracle- to play better Dota. Just four years ago, this trio would have been able to beat almost anyone in the world. Now, they are barely competitive at the regional level, in one of the weakest regions. Something must have gone terribly wrong.

Fresh meat

Matthew and Fbz, the two new players signed by Nigma Galaxy, are well-known in the Dota 2 community.

Matthew finished 5^th – 6^th at The International 11 with Thunder Awaken, and then 9^th – 12^th at Riyadh Masters 2023 with Evil Geniuses.

Fbz was part of the BOOM Esports team that dominated Southeast Asia in the 2021 – 2022 season. He finished 9^th – 12^th at The International 11 and 9^th – 12^th at Riyadh Masters 2023.

These are the types of players who have the potential the help KuroKy’s team. But the hard work is only starting. Fortunately for KuroKy, despite having a very tough opponent to beat in the region, Team Falcons have recently assembled their roster as well. So both teams are in a similar position.

Falcons might be two months ahead in terms of cohesion because their players were signed in early November last year, but that’s not an insurmountable difference. The only condition for Nigma to be successful is to find intelligent ways of playing the current meta.

Their players, at the individual level, have everything that’s required to succeed. But without a solid strategy, there can be no success at the highest competitive level.
