League of Legends’ twelfth patch of the season has arrived, bringing with it buffs, nerfs, and a brand new set of skins

Patch 12.12 launched on June 23 and is not as substantial as some of the recent patches, but continues to tweak and change champions following the game-changing 12.10 durability patch.

A large focus of the update was attempting to fix champion healing, which many players still believe is out of control following the durability update.

Buffs

Amumu, Annie, Blitzcrank, Heimerdinger, Ivern, Jarvan IV, Seraphine, and Yorick all received buffs in 12.12.

This should help bring some of these champions a little closer into the meta after their play rates sharply dropped off at the start of Season 12. Of the eight buffed, only Jarvan and Serphaine had seen consistent top-flight esports play so far in 2022.

Nerfs

On the side of the balancing act, Bel’Veth, Dr. Mundo, Fiora, Janna, Lucian, Singed, Viego, and Zeri all received nerfs in the new patch.

Bel’Veth was the biggest culprit, with devs trying to make her a little less overpowered since her debut in patch 12.11 earlier in June. While she was a welcome addition to the roster, it is fair to say that the Empress of the Void was indeed quite powerful.

Lucian’s ultimate is also nerfed to ensure that he’s a little less of a ‘press R, win game’ champion in the late game.

Adjustments

Katarina, Shaco, Soraka, and Yuumi all received adjustments, meaning they were buffed in some areas and nerfed in others.

Yuumi was the big focus here, after her prevalence following the 12.10 update reignited the ‘Yuumi is broken’ discourse amongst players. Her passive shield was buffed, as was the bonus move speed granted by her ‘Zoomies’ ability. However, the healing effect of Zoomies was nerfed slightly.

New skins

While many fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Star Guardians, Riot released Snow Moon skins for Caitlyn, Illaoi, and Kayn. Snow Moon is the continuation/antithesis of the 2019 Blood Moon event and skin line.

The 12.12 patch also adds the Ashen Knight skin for Pantheon, whose reveal earlier this month was met with some backlash from fans, who felt the skin was too similar to a pre-existing skin for the champion.

Patch 12.13

Fans will have around three weeks to enjoy patch 12.12 before patch 12.13 is released. Patch 12.13, set to be released on July 13, will add new champion Nilah to the game as well as the 2022 Star Guardians event. The patch will also include the mid-scope update for ADC champion Sivir.

The full patch notes for 12.12 are available on Riot Games’ website.
