Riot Games teases League of Legends champion Nilah

Riot has once again given fans a teaser for the next League of Legends champion. This time around, the developers teased a “mysterious” bot lane champion named Nilah, who is coming to the game in Season 12.

The League of Legends Season 12, which runs for the most part of 2022, is packed with champion releases and teasers for them. While players are still getting used to Bel’Veth, a new bot laner with the potential to shake up the meat is already on the horizon. 

Riot’s teaser video hinting at the next champion to join the ever-growing roster of playable characters in League’s Rift has only 12 seconds and was accompanied by a cryptic message that reads: “The waters of life flow on forever. Whose story will they tell? From distant shores, tomorrow”.

Who is Nilah?

Until now, not much was known about the “mysterious” League of Legends bot lane champion, but that all changed on June 17 when we finally learned their name — Nilah. Previous leaks have suggested that the new champion’s name could be Nilah and that their appearance is that of a woman armed with a whip-like weapon made of water.

The teaser posted on social media showed someone walking by the water with a tint of blue around their feet. Comparing the silhouette in the trailer to the leaked images of the champion, there are similarities with the slightly cropped hairdo, robe and water globe on her hip.

More about Nilah

Earlier this year during the Season 12 launch live stream, Riot Games developer Ryan “Reav3” Mireles shared little details about Nilah. He described the champion as “a mysterious, non-traditional bot lane champion that will be released later this year”.

Later on April 18, Reav3 shared more information about what appears to be a melee-focused bot laner. A battle at Oyster Bill’s Oyster Shack revealed some traits players can expect when the new champion arrives. According to Reav3, Nilah is a “stranger from the land of a thousand colours” across the seas of Runeterra.

Presumably, Nilah fights with a water-based ability, as they leave “strange glowing puddles” and create a fog effect in combat. Aside from their laughter, “the sound of splashing water” has been associated with the new champion. Anything to do with their gear — aside from the fact that they’re non-traditional, which usually means they’re not a sniper — remains to be seen.

Release date

Nilah will be released in Season 12 later this year. Considering that Riot has started releasing teasers, players probably won’t have to wait too long.
