The new League of Legends season kicked off in South Korea with a week full of exciting matches.

The league’s strongest teams have already made a statement by winning their first two matches. The only exception was T1, who lost their first match of the season against their strongest regional rival, Gen.G Esports.

A summary of LCK Spring week 1

Here’s what happened in the first 10 matches of LCK Spring:

Nonshim RedForce vs. DragonX: 2 – 0

RedForce may not be capable of beating the likes of Gen.G at this point, but they certainly proved capable of playing well against lesser-skilled opponents. In both games, they picked Aphelios and Milio, and seemed to know exactly what they wanted to do.

T1 vs. Gen.G Esports: 1 – 2

T1 started this match with a victory and everything looked great for Faker and his squad. But then in games 2 and 3, they decided to try an Azir-based draft and it didn’t work. Gen.G countered it each time with the same trio: Maokai, Varus, and Rakan.

This defeat marks the start of a new year in which Gen.G and T1 will most likely prove to be the strongest teams in LCK. Whoever wins the direct matches is going to win the trophies as well.

BRION vs. Dplus: 0 – 2

BRION went for the Azir plus Jax combo in both games and failed with it against Dplus’ Rakan, Xayah, and Vi trio.

FearX vs. KT Rolster: 0 – 2

KT were expected to win this match and they didn’t disappoint. Their drafting style was quite unique and placed a lot of value on champions that we don’t see that often, such as Hwei.

Hanwha Life vs. DragonX: 2 – 0

Hanwha Life, one of the strongest South Korean teams of 2023, crushed DRX in this match. The games lasted for 32 and 23 minutes.

T1 vs. Freecs: 2 – 0

T1 showed in this match that they’ve already recovered after the defeat against Gen.G, and won very quickly against Freecs, in 26 and 27 minutes.

FearX vs. BRION: 2 – 0

This match made everyone think that BRION will have a rough season. Their playstyle was not convincing at all.

Nonshim RedForce vs. Gen.G Esports: 0 – 2

GenG had very little to do to win this match. Their performance clearly showed that they’re the team to beat this season.

Freecs vs. Hanwha Life: 0 – 2

Another excellent match for Hanwha Life, and they had so much confidence in their game 1 draft that they decided to pick three of the champions in game 2 as well.

KT Rolster vs. Dplus: 2 – 1

This was a tough match for both sides. In the end, KT triumphed thanks to their stronger individuals.
