We are entering the offseason stage of the VCT, where teams want to finalize their squads to prepare for the next season in the best possible way.

This time, we have Gen.G, one of the most popular and biggest organizations in South Korea, announcing the signing of Kim “Lakia” Jong-min. This is a big surprise in the community, as Lakia had remarkable ups and downs in the last few seasons. However, this also marks a vote of confidence for the South Korean to return to his top competitive level.

Gen.G announces the signing of Lakia

Through a post on its Twitter/X account, Gen.G announced the signing of Lakia ahead of the VALORANT Champions Tour 2024.

Lakia made his name on the VALORANT competitive scene in 2021 when he was the leading scorer of a team called NUTURN Gaming, which led them to excellent international participation. However, the player performed terribly in Vision Strikers, which took him away from the VALORANT Tier 1 scene.

On the other hand, it is fair to mention that Lakia is Gen.G’s third signing this offseason. Moreover, the player comes from playing a good season with Dplus KIA in the Challengers scene in South Korea, as the team won both Split of the season. However, they fell short in the most important tournament of the year, the VCT Ascension Pacific.

About Lakia

For all those who follow the VALORANT Pacific scene, Lakia’s name is no stranger, as, for many, this is one of the most promising players in the region.

As mentioned, the high point in Lakia’s career was playing for NUTURN in 2021, as he led the team to qualify for Stage 2 of the Reykjavik Master. After that, the team maintained excellent form in the regional tournaments in South Korea, so much so that they finished in third place.

Similarly, not everything is positive recently for Lakia, as, after being on a pedestal for many in the Pacific scene, the player started to lose relevance and was left out of the Franchise system for 2023. As a result, he had to play in the Challengers scene with Dplus KIA.

Finally, after Dplus KIA’s defeat in the VCT Ascension Pacific, Lakia showed a great level of play, which caught Gen. G’s attention. In addition, the South Korean organization is betting that Lakia will return to be that promising player that captivated many in the scene.

On the other hand, now Gen.G only needs to finish announcing its squad for VCT 2024 so they can start preparing for the battle in the Pacific region.
