David “Insanity” Challe becomes the first American mid-laner to play as a starter for TSM after nearly a decade in the LCS. This milestone marks just one day after TSM announced his signing as the sixth player and, in addition, the absence of Lee “Ruby” Sol-min from the first few games due to his recently approved visa.

Visa problems continue for the various League of Legends players in the LCS, as most are from South Korea. However, the organization announced that the player would be available even for the third match of the first week. In the meantime, Insanity must try to lead his team to victory.

TSM announces the signing of Insanity as the sixth player

Last June 13, TSM announced the signing of Insanity as the team’s sixth player ahead of the start of the LCS Summer Split 2023. However, minutes later, the organization shared that Ruby, their new signing for this second half of the season, would not arrive in time to play the first game, so Insanity would take his place.

While the player is already in the country, TSM has yet to announce when Ruby will join the team’s starting lineup. As a result, Insanity will most likely have to play all three games in the first week of the Summer Split.

About Insanity

After spending a year in the Challengers division of the LCS playing for Dignitas Challengers, Insanity returns to the LCS, where he competed in the 2020 and 2021 seasons with Immortals. After those two seasons in the LCS, the player spent time with 100 Thieves Next before coming to Dignitas.

Now, Insanity becomes the first North American player to play the mid-laner position for TSM since Andy “Reginald” Dinh did so in 2013. This means that TSM has had an imported mid-laner for the last decade, which will continue to be true when Ruby enters the starting lineup. However, it is worth mentioning that Insanity made his debut with TSM and will likely play the games against FlyQuest and Cloud9 in this first week.

Imported mid-laners in TSM

Since Reginald’s departure in 2013, TSM has been characterized by importing mid-laner players, starting with Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg. Thanks to Bjergsen’s extraordinary level, the organization lifted the championship title in the LCS on six occasions.

At the end of 2020, Bjergsen decided to retire from the competitive LoL scene for the first time, and, as a result, TSM signed German Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage. Finally, TSM has signed Asian players to fill this crucial position within its lineup.

On the other hand, it is worth remembering that this may be TSM’s last Split in the LCS. About three weeks ago, Reginald confirmed that the team was leaving the LoL NA scene to join another region at the top competitive level.

Below, we will show the mid-laners that TSM has had since Reginald’s departure in 2023.:

  • Bjergsen
  • PowerOfEvil
  • Zhu “Keaiduo” Xiong
  • Ji “Takeover” Hyeun-min
  • Huang “Maple” Yi-tang
  • Ruby
  • Insanity
