The quarterfinals of IEM Cologne ended with some very interesting results. Team Vitality defeated a very powerful Cloud9, while Astralis had one of their best performances in recent memory against Heroic.

In the semifinals, both teams will have the opportunity to compete against opponents that can realistically be defeated. Arguably, Vitality will likely beat ENCE, while Astralis should at least have a good chance of getting revenge against G2 Esports, who defeated them in the first upper bracket match of group B.

Team Vitality vs. Cloud9: 2-0

This match started well for Vitality. The French team was leading 10-5 on Mirage, even though this was C9’s map pick. The final score on this map was 16-11.

On the second map, Inferno, Vitality struggled to find the winning point but eventually won in overtime. The score was 19-17.

As always, Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut had an amazing performance and finished with a K-D record of 56-35. His rating 2.0 was 1.46.

Shahar “flameZ” Shushan, despite being just at the start of his Vitality adventure, played really well and was on par with two of the other Vitality players. His score was 41-45.

Heroic vs. Astralis: 0-2

Heroic were expected to win this match with ease. In the previous disputes between these two teams, Heroic did well. But it seems that Nicolai “device” Reedtz is quickly approaching his peak again. On top of that, Christian “Buzz” Andersen is also in great shape at the moment.

Both of these players gave Heroic a lot of headaches and finished with a K-D score of around 50-25. That’s spectacular considering what Heroic’s players managed to do. The best of them, Casper “cadiaN” Moller, finished the match with just 34 kills and 35 deaths.

Both maps were difficult in the first half, which ended with the closest score possible: 7-8. But in the second half, Astralis were much stronger. On Ancient, they didn’t lose a single round, while on Inferno, they won 9-3.

It will be interesting to see device competing again in the semifinals. If everything goes well, he will likely face Vitality in the Grand Final. But we might also see ENCE vs. G2 Esports in the last match of the tournament, which will be of great importance.

The winner receives $400.000 and a direct invite to IEM Katowice 2024. The runner-up gets $180.000, which is not bad at all.
