Former mayor in jail after shooting at Pokemon Go players

A former Pennsylvania mayor has been caught after shooting at two Pokemon Go players last year. The woman has been sentenced and has to spend a year in jail.

Last year a woman named Ida Reams, wo was the mayor of Osceola Mills from 2013-2021, was outside a food bank where she was shooting at two men, who were playing Pokemon Go.

According to some sources, Ida Reams was threatening the two men and suddenly had an outburst and started getting out her gun and firing at the direction of the two players, demanding that they leave immediately, otherwise she would “f**king kill” them. She was heavily intoxicated.

Even before she started shooting, the two men had already called 911, explaining that the woman had started yelling at them. The police heard two gunshots during the call, and then the call was disconnected.

Later it was reported, that Reams was arrested for terroristic threats, two counts of simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.

The case had been delayed pretty often, apparently the victims refused to cooperate. However, on Monday, the ex-mayor took a plea deal and was sentenced to one year in jail. In addition she is going to be on 18 month’s probation.

The former mayor has been diagnosed with cancer in it’s advanced stages has problems with her immune system after taking medication for the cancer. That is why she has requested to serve the 1 year sentence at home. Her request was denied. She will have to go to jail in January nonetheless.

Pokemon Go players in danger?

Last year, a man was killed playing the game with his daughter.

On July 15, 2022, a 29-year-old man named Servando Hamros was shot and killed in front of his 7-year-old daughter while playing Pokémon GO in a park along the North Shore Channel in Evanston, Illinois. Police found Hamros lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hamros’ family reported that they were playing Pokémon Go when they were confronted by several people who started shooting. According to Hamros’ mother, “He had a confrontation with some other people that were here, and they killed him. My granddaughter FaceTimed us, saying, ‘Help me, daddy’s shot.’ In the park by herself, with her dad. They executed him in front of her, and then they shot at her”.

Pokemon Go players don’t need to worry though. Even though both cases are scary, it is very rare that something might happen while playing the game.
