Jakob “jabbi” Nygaard has joined Heroic’s CS: GO roster, the organization announced today. With the signing of the 18-year-old rifler, Heroic now has a replacement for the benched Ismail “refrezh” Ali.

The young CS:GO player appeared delighted after joining Heroic, which is understandable given Heroic’s success in the CS:GO scene. In the official statement posted by Heroic, he said: “It is a huge opportunity for me to become a part of this team. It is a team that plays exciting CS while consistently being in the top 5.”

Is jabbi a good fit for Heroic?

Refrezh had been benched by Heroic after failing to win a big-event title. Although the team secured a decent ranking in tournaments for most of 2021 and much of 2022 as well, the team was unable to covert good openings into a victory. Apparently Heroic aim to do better than they have been, stating they are “willing to risk something very good at the chance to become the very best,” as read their recent announcement.

Jabbi, on the other hand, was a part of the Copenhagen Flames and delivered many remarkable performances during his time on the team. He built his name in the CS:GO community with his individual performance, despite not being able to reach the pinnacle of success with the Danish side.

Their biggest highlight of 2021 was a 9th-11th place finish in the PGL Stockholm Major 2021 and a first-place finish in a B-Tier event, the Malta Vibes Knockout Series. While their performance suffered a blow at the start of 2022, they made a strong comeback at the PGL Antwerp Major. The squad advanced to the event’s quarterfinals but was eliminated after a devastating 0-2 loss against ENCE. He was the firepower of the Copenhagen Flames, but as the roster shuffles, he can now do the same for Heroic.

It was expected, though, that the roster would split since the organization couldn’t find a buyer for all of its five players.  Fredrik “roeJ” Jørgensen and Nico “nicoodoz” Tamjidi have already joined Fnatic, while In-Game Leader Rasmus “HooXi” Nielsen and Rasmus “Zyphon” Nordfoss still remains inactive in the Copenhagen squad.

New Heroic roster will debut at IEM Cologne

The team is currently preparing for the upcoming IEM Cologne, scheduled to kick off on July 5, where they will start from the Play-in stage. The team will face other top-tier squads from around the globe including Natus Vincere, G2 Esports, Cloud9,  BIG, Team Spirit, and Team Vitality.

Current Heroic roster:

  • Richard “Xizt” Landström (coach)
  • Jakob “jabbi” Nygaard
  • Casper “cadiaN” Møller (In-Game Leader)
  • Martin “stavn” Lund
  • Rasmus “sjuush” Beck
