After competing for four days at Pinnacle Cup Championship 2022, Heroic have finally done it, confirming their excellent form. The Danish team entered the tournament as one of the top three favorites and managed to beat both BIG and Astralis to claim the title.

The Grand Final saw a battle of the two Danish powerhouses, which ended up with Heroic claiming the title after defeating Astralis 2-0.

Heroic’s Run at Pinnacle Cup Championship 2022

Pinnacle Cup Championship 2022 featured 8 teams and offered them a shared prize pool of $250,000. The organizer, Black Molly Entertainment, chose an action-packet format for the event and as a result, the competitors had to go through two stages.

Group Stage results

For the Group Stage, the 8 teams were divided into two groups of four.

Group A:

  • BIG
  • Heroic
  • Fnatic
  • MIBR

Group B:

  • Astralis
  • Team Finest
  • Imperial Esports
  • Evil Geniuses

In Group A, the survivors were BIG and Heroic, while in Group B, Astralis and Team Finest were the ones who qualified for the Playoffs. The results were somewhat surprising but there are reasons why teams like Fnatic and Evil Geniuses failed. While Fnatic played with a stand-in and did not manage to improvise well enough on the spot, Evil Geniuses played with one of their weaker rosters, the former team Party Astronauts. Stewie2K’s crew did not take part in the tournament.

Playoff results

The Playoffs of Pinnacle Cup Championship 2022 saw its double-elimination format heavily favour the winners of the groups. Despite the advantage, however, neither of them won the competition.

Heroic’s run started in the lower bracket against Team Finest. Surprisingly, this was the toughest battle of the three, despite the fact that the opponent was considered to be the weakest. Team Finest managed to create serious problems for Casper “cadiaN” Møller’s crew and won map two. In the end, Heroic proved why they were a top-five team just a few months ago and crushed Finest on Overpass (16:8) and Inferno (16:4).

The next match was played against BIG, who were defeated by Astralis (2–0) in the Upper Bracket Final. While this was a very tough battle for both sides, Heroic’s victory can be attributed to the exceptional performance of Rasmus “sjuush” Beck, whose rating 2.0 was 1.35. Arguably, he was the strongest player on the server.

On paper, the Grand Final was supposed to be a close battle between the best two Danish teams. But in reality, Heroic proved to be much stronger and won with ease — 16:9 on Ancient and 16:11 on Overpass. René “TeSeS” Madsen had a great day and was the best player on the server with a rating 2.0 of 1.38 and a KD score of +12.
