An Activision data breach from December 2022 indicates that a new Call of Duty game with the codename “Cerberus” will be released in 2024, according to a report by Insider Gaming.

Insider Gaming has discovered references to Call of Duty’s scheduled projects for 2024 in the Activision documents that were breached in December 2022. The reports appear to provide a number of significant details about impending Call of Duty DLC, including the number of fresh operators and weapons, the length of multiplayer seasons, and more.

The report further stated in the report that the data breach contained details regarding the impending Modern Warfare 2 DLC as well as details about the anticipated 2023 and 2024 installments of the series, codenamed Jupiter and Cerberus, respectively.

There is no specific information available on the Cerberus project. However, Jason Schreier from Bloomberg already shared information on the project in November, including the assertion that Treyarch Studios is purportedly developing the 2024 game. Fans soon speculated that since the studio is well-known for its Black Ops series in the genre, it would be a sequel to Cold War.

However, Activision has not yet validated this information, so it’s entirely speculative. According to reports, a significant amount of season 3 and season 4 content for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 was exposed in the latest Activision breach. If the leaks turn out to be accurate, the Call of Duty titles will receive the following content:

Season 3: 2 New Operators, 1 Spec Ops Mission,  1 Battle Map, 4 Gunfight Maps,1 RaidTier, 1 Licensed, 3 New Weapons, 3 Core Maps,1 Event, 70 Bundles.

Season 4: 2 New Operators, 1 Spec Ops Mission, 1 RaidTier, 1 Licensed,  2 Battle Maps, 4 Gunfight Maps, 3 New Weapons, 2 Core Maps, 1 Small Map, 1 Event, 70 Bundles.

Will Call of Duty 2024 be compatible with older consoles?

The report further indicates that Call of Duty 2024 may release on last-gen consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One family of systems. There are references to older consoles in some of Activision’s breached data that has been scanned by Insider Gaming. Originally, Call of Duty 2023 was supposed to be the final game to launch on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Nevertheless, that is definitely not the case at the time, as Activision has brought the entire franchise under one engine that is suitable for both last-generation and current-generation platforms. Microsoft has also revealed that, in the event that its proposal to acquire Activision Blizzard is successful, it will also release COD titles for Nintendo devices. In the absence of further confirmation, players must wait until further reports and speculation are released by the franchise.
