The latest installment of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 saga arrived last October 28, 2022. There is no doubt that millions of players rushed to experience the new maps, weapons, modes, and above all, gameplay novelties.

Game modes in Modern Warfare 2

In addition to the list of traditional game modes, Infinity Ward has introduced a couple of new modes, the 6v6 in Prisoner Rescue and Knockout. This is to keep the list of game modes fresh and, above all, fun. On the other hand, players can also play the traditional CoD game modes, such as Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, Domination, and others.

However, one of the most beloved game modes was left in the air at the launch of Modern Warfare 2. Hardcore mode was not included at the game’s release. But, we have Tier 1, which closely resembles this acclaimed game mode.

How to play Hardcore (Tier 1) in Modern Warfare 2

While Hardcore was unavailable in the list of game modes at launch, which certainly disappointed many fans, it was added as part of the update last November 16.

To play Hardcore mode, now called Tier 1, you must select it from the list of multiplayer game modes in the CoD HQ menu. This is found as a selectable mode next to Private Matches and Invasion.

What is Tier 1 mode in Modern Warfare 2?

The Tier 1 game mode replicates the Hardcore we all know from previous Call of Duty franchises. However, most of the HUD elements in this mode are removed, such as the minimap, compass, ammo count, and reticle. In addition, players have less health than in traditional modes, so you die and kill much faster.

In this game mode, friendly fire is enabled. This means that you can damage and even kill your teammates. So you should think carefully before throwing a grenade in the middle of a battle.

Hardcore mode was first introduced in Modern Warfare in its original 2007 version. Since then, it has been present in almost every installment of the Call of Duty saga. This mod is the main experience for some CoD players worldwide who prefer it over normal multiplayer modes.

Hardcore is back

Last January 22, Activision announced the return of Hardcore mode. Later, the company itself clarified that Hardcore replaces Tier 1 in the game as part of the Season 2 update on February 15. So hardcore mode is officially back.

As we can see, Infinity Ward’s Tweet clearly states that:

“No HUD? No problem. Hardcore is back! Follow Season 02’s Multiplayer updates in our studio blog later this week.”

This means that many community members are now much more anxious about the arrival of the new season. With each passing day, we are getting closer to it, and, in addition, we have seen how the developers have taken the trouble to publish other new changes that will be in the game from February 15.
