Thanks to the excellent results they obtained at IEM Cologne and IEM Katowice earlier this year, G2 Esports has accumulated enough points to receive one of the three Global Leaderboard invites to BLAST Premier: World Final. And the most of the Premier Fall events haven’t even taken place yet!

G2’s current rank in BLAST Premier World Leaderboard 2023 is 3rd. They have 10625 points and are very close to Team Vitality (11400) and Heroic (11725).

But these two teams, as well as FaZe Clan (10100), have earned their World Final tickets by winning BLAST.tv Paris Major (Vitality), BLAST Premier: Spring Final (Heroic), and ESL Pro League S17 (FaZe).

G2’s strengths

G2’s main strengths are Nikola “NiKo” Kovac and Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov. Both of them are among the best five players in the world at the moment and their synergy is very hard to play against. If both of them play their usual game, G2 cannot be beaten except by one of the other top five teams.

G2’s main problem is consistency. After a big victory, they tend to become too relaxed and end up failing at multiple tournaments in a row. But every now and then, they rise to the top and win something spectacular.

It’s not easy to win a $1 million tournament. But such victories are worth more than four smaller ones. This means that G2 can afford to win just several S-tier tournaments per year and they won’t have to make any roster changes. To be fair, even if they wanted to change someone, who would it be?

The Kovac cousins are irreplaceable, m0NESY as well. The only people who could be replaced are jks and HooXi. But both of them have played well this season.

G2’s next adventure will be at Gamers8 2023, where they are expected to finish in the top four. However, this won’t be easy to achieve. The first match is against 9INE and it could easily get them eliminated. Even if they win it, in the second match they’ll have to play against FaZe Clan or Virtus.pro.

A victory in the quarterfinals would likely force them to then play against Natus Vincere or Team Vitality for a spot in the Grand Final, where Heroic, ENCE, or Cloud9 might await. No matter what happens, G2 will need to be as good as they were at IEM Cologne to stand a chance to win.
