Team Fredit BRION struck twice by Covid: first, the main lineup tested positive for Covid 19, and now the Challenger team has tested positive as well. Team BRO has been forced to forfeit the game against GenZ.

According to the organization’s official announcement, the Academy roster’s top laner Lim “Soboro” Seong-min and mid-laner Jeong “Feisty” Seong-hoon have tested positive for COVID-19 and now the team is unable to field 5 players in their next match against Gen.G.

“We are sorry to announce that Soboro & Feisty tested positive for COVID today. Due to 2 members of our team’s emergency call-up team testing positive for COVID, Our team will not be able to field a team and will waive the match.” Fredit Brion

LCK announced that Fredit BRION has forfeited its match against Gen.G  with a scoreline of 0-2 due to the organization’s incapability to field a roster.

League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) released a statement to the public on Twitter explaining the situation. According to the league’s guidelines in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak in a team, If a team is unable to substitute two players the match will be rescheduled.

“When the LCK provided these protocols to the teams, it was explained that, For the cases discovered within 2-3 weeks of playoffs, if the game cannot resume before Thursday, the team will be handed a forfeit,” LCK said in their official announcement.

LCK also clarified why the match cannot be postponed. According to LCK, If the LCK Spring Playoffs were rescheduled for later to allow for a makeup match between Fredit BRION and Gen.G, multiple complications with the schedule of the Asian Games and other international tournaments would emerge. The officials also want to avoid chances of any team playing  “back to back or doubleheader”. In addition, officials are considering the possibility of final-day tie-breakers, which, given the present standings, is a wise decision.

It isn’t the first time covid hits team Fredit BRION

This isn’t the first time covid-19 changed the fate of Team Fredit Brion, earlier before the match against T1 on March 13th, the main lineup of BRO tested positive including the coaches. Since many members of the team tested positive for COVID-19, BRO fielded its academy team in place of its starting lineup against the “Undefeated” T1 and the team received a devastating defeat of 2-0.

Back in 2020, Fredit BRION’s second team’s coaching staff tested positive for coronavirus during the League of Legends 2020 KeSPA Cup. Keeping all safety precautions in mind, the squad opted to forfeit the rest of its matches and they were out of the league. Fortunately, Fredit BRION’s match versus Damwon Kia on March 19th will go forward as scheduled. LCK has confirmed this.

Fredit BRION, currently in 5th place in the league, will suffer from the forfeit. The forfeit drops Fredit BRION to 7-10, putting KT Rolster in a tie for 5th position if they beat Nongshim RedForce in the first match of week 9 of the 2022 LCK Spring Split.

Despite the odds, the team still got a chance to make it to the playoffs and It will be exciting to witness what happens next in team BRO’s bumpy trip in the LCK spring split 2022
