Finnish player polvi completes Global Esports roster for VCT 2023

The sole Indian organization in the partnered Valorant League, Global Esports, has added 22-year-old Finnish player Niko “polvi” Polvinen to their Valorant 2024 squad, completing its five-man lineup ahead of the new season.

The Finnish player joined the Valorant scene in 2020, but his playing career with TENSTAR and MAD Lions throughout the early years of the league is what made him a more prominent figure. After placing fourth in the Red Bull Home Ground 2 and Challengers 2 Stage 3 of the 2021 VCT, he took second in the first VRL Northern Polaris Split of 2022.

Polovi was forced to return to the C-Tier tournaments after being dropped from the Mad Lion squad at the beginning of 2023. The Finish player kept up his impressive play in the regional scene, winning the Goose House – BEACON Open Split 1 with OnlyFins, the VCL France: Revolution – Coupe De France 2023 with Valiant, and the BEACON Open 2023 Split 1: Finals – Division 1. As an extraordinary Deulist, he put a 1.30 rating while playing Jett and a 1.36 rating with Raze in 2023 based on the 110 games played on the Agents.

The signing will bring polvi back together with Peter “Spin” Bradford, who was just elevated to the head coach role, and Morgan “BigTime” Jay. Both have experience working with polvi from the 2021 original TENSTAR roster. Together, they placed in the top four in many EMEA competitions, such as LVP Rising, Challengers, and Red Bull Home Ground.

Global Esports complete its “roster reset”:

GE’s move follows a mediocre performance from the team in the Valorous Champion Tour (VCT) 2023 season that led to a roster reset by the organization. At the beginning of the 2023 season, Global Esports assembled a substantial roster with ten players. They had a dismal start to the VCT 2023 season, finishing 17th–32nd in the first event, LOCK//IN.

The poor showing of Global Esports continued throughout the season as they were unable to make an impression on their fans during any of the VCT events. With a 3-6 record in the regular season, they were unable to guarantee a postseason berth in the VCT Pacific League. Following a dismal 2023 campaign, the team made many roster adjustments eventually cutting ties with every player already on the squad except Abhirup “Lightningfast” Choudhury.

The organization recruited former Bleed Esports player Gary “blaZek1ng” Dastin, former Paper Rex player Benedict “Benkai” Tan, and former Guild Esports player Russel “Russ” Mendes. Additionally, with polvi’s recent visa confirmation, Global Esports has indicated that their team’s Bootcamp would start in Mumbai the following week.

Global Esports’ roster includes the following players:

  • Benedict “Benkai” Tan
  • Niko “polvi” Polvinen
  • Abhirup “Lightningfast” Choudhury
  • Russel “Russ” Mendes (IGL)
  • Gary “blaZek1ng” Dastin
  • Peter “Spin” Bradford (Head coach)
  • Morgan “BigTime” Jay (Assistant Coach)
