OG sign DM, a former Virtus.pro player

Some esports organizations have the extraordinary ability to assess a player’s skill level and potential without caring about his previous results. That’s how formidable competitors are found and that’s how the next generation of Dota 2 pros is born.

Two orgs that have been doing this successfully for years are OG and Team Secret. In Secret’s case, everyone knows that Clement “Puppey” Ivanov is brilliant at scouting. But Sebastien “Ceb” Debs and Johan “N0tail” Sundstein are just as good. And their latest signing is Dimitry “DM” Dorokhin.

OG’s decision to bring in DM

After the end of The International 11, OG parted ways with Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf. The young offlaner proved to have great skills but he also proved to be highly problematic. His attitude was simply not good enough for Ceb, who can be toxic himself in pubs but cannot stand that sort of thing inside his own roster, at the highest level.

Of course, different people will give different opinions about why ATF was removed from OG, but the real answer probably has something to do with ATF’s demeanor. His very nickname is a bit offensive: Ammar The F*****, which he turned into ATF just to hide the original one. It’s obvious that the 17-year-old needs to grow up.

After removing ATF, OG were left with a huge void. Of course, Ceb could have taken his role and served as the team’s position 3 player. But he’s 30 years old and most likely unwilling to grind for 10 hours a day at this point in his life. He probably has other priorities. Plus he has achieved everything with OG, so what’s the point?

DM, on the other hand, is only 22. His former teams include Vega Squadron, Winstrike Team, HellRaisers, Chaos Esports Club, VP.Prodigy, and Virtus.pro. What’s strange, however, is that he spent very little time on his first four teams. We’re talking about months.

Why did OG want him? The answer is simple: while he competed for Virtus.pro, he demonstrated exceptional abilities and managed to finish fifth-sixth at The International, which is a very impressive result.

Apart from that, he’s an 11000+ MMR player, which is a clear indicator of skill. And the fact that he competes in the CIS region makes his MMR even more relevant because the region is known to be one of the best in Dota 2.

DM will need to prove himself in the first two Tours of Dota Pro Circuit 2023. And it won’t be easy, because Western Europe is full of great teams.
