For a lot of CS:GO fans, the European RMR Decider was painful to watch. Out of the six participants, only one could go to the Paris Major.

The winner was FaZe Clan, which means that Cloud9, BIG, and Team Falcons will not compete in the first CS:GO Major of the season.

How FaZe Clan qualified for BLAST.tv Paris Major

FaZe were supposed to be one of the 3 W – 0 L teams in European RMR A. And initially, it looked like they were going to achieve this goal with ease. Their victories over OG and Apeks in the first two rounds of the tournament were convincing enough to make us believe that they could do it.

But in the third match, FaZe ran into Natus Vincere and Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev’s team did not give them a chance to win. Still, even after this 2-0 defeat, FaZe had two more opportunities to get the job done. In both cases, the match was a best-of-three and the opponent was, at least in theory, much weaker than them.

But both times, FaZe found themselves losing despite the fact that the odds were heavily in their favor. First against Bad News Eagles (0-2) and then against MOUZ (1-2).

With their 2 W – 3 L record, they were sent to the European RMR Decider. Whoever thought about introducing this last chance qualifier had a great idea. Without it, one of the best teams in the world would not have been able to compete at what will likely be the most prestigious CS:GO event of the year.

Thanks to their Buchholz score, FaZe Clan advanced directly to the Grand Final after defeating Aurora Gaming. Their opponent was the winner of the semifinal: Cloud9 vs. BIG. The scores in this match were quite close (16-13 on Anubis and 16-12 on Vertigo) but in the end, Cloud9 won.

FaZe Clan and C9 had already met each other in the Grand Final of ESL Pro League S17. FaZe won that match quite easily (3-1), so nobody expected C9 to win. But things nearly got out of control for Finn “karrigan” Andersen and his crew.

On the first map, they were seven rounds behind after the first half and had to make a spectacular comeback to win. The final score was 19-15. The second map was much easier, thanks in part to the demoralizing effect that the Mirage defeat had on Cloud9’s players. The score on this second map (Inferno) was 16-9.
