After three excellent victories, Entity have qualified for The International 12.

Earlier this year, this team was regarded as one of the best in Western Europe. They finished Tour 1 in 4th place and then the Lima Major in 5th – 6th place. But after that, something happened and it’s not clear what it was.

All we know for sure is that Entity failed miserably at every single tournament and Tobias “Tobi” Buchner eventually got replaced by Kim “Gabbi” Santos. The roster change happened in early July, so the team had plenty of time to train with the new player.

Fortunately for Entity, it seems that Gabbi and the rest of the squad were very hungry to win and qualify for The International. In the months that preceded the WEU qualifier, they probably trained hard and found a way to play the current meta better than most.

Entity’s triumph

Entity started the WEU Qualifier for TI12 with a victory against Nigma Galaxy. But not before losing game 1, against a very nasty Gyrocopter, Enigma, KotL combo. In games 2 and 3, their drafts were a bit harder to counter and they found themselves outscaling their opponents.

Their next opponent was Team Secret. Nobody likes to play against Clement “Puppey” Ivanov in a crucial match because he is incredibly experienced. He’s the only Dota 2 who has participated in every single edition of The International. And his results speak for themselves.

Nevertheless, Entity found a way to win both games with a combination of assassins and Warlock. In game 1 they used Phantom Assassin and in game 2 they used Templar Assassin. But it wasn’t just their drafts that gave them the victory. It was also how they approached each situation.

In the upper bracket Final, Entity faced the only dark horse in the race, Luna Galaxy. This team was created just a few months ago and has few exceptional players. But somehow they managed to beat both Level UP and Quest Esports.

Entity proved to be too strong for them. The games lasted 62 and 39 minutes respectively. In game 1, Entity used Gyrocopter, Ember Spirit, and Legion Commander. This helped enormously as the game progressed, because these heroes scale very well into the ultra-late game.

Thanks to this victory, Entity will get the opportunity to play at the most prestigious event of the year. We don’t know its prize pool yet, but it will probably be at least $10 million.
