Despite getting beaten by Astralis in the upper bracket semifinals, FaZe Clan proved to be a formidable team in the lower bracket, defeating Cloud9 and FlyQuest without losing a single map.

Then, in the quarterfinals of the playoffs, they encountered a very determined Team Liquid roster and were close to losing against them. But in the end, their superior experience helped them triumph. Karrigan struggled the entire match, ending with a personal score of 29 – 58. Even for an IGL, that’s a poor performance.

But his leadership was clearly of great help to the team. So was broky’s aim. The Latvian player finished the match with a score of 66 – 41 and was by far the best on the server. Even ropz, who regularly plays well, could not be as useful as him.

The Match

In the elimination match between FaZe Clan and Team Liquid, FaZe picked Nuke while Liquid picked Anubis. Mirage was left over. Both teams won their map picks but only with great difficulty. FaZe won 13 – 16 on Nuke after winning the first half 3 – 9. Liquid won 13 – 11 on Anubis after losing the first half 5 – 7. On Mirage, the score was 10 – 13.

Upcoming Matches

In the semifinals, FaZe Clan will face Astralis for the second time at IEM Chengdu. We’ll have to see if karrigan has learned from his mistakes. Based on everything we’ve seen so far, Astralis are much stronger than they used to be.

Dev1ce has turned this team into a force that can stand its ground even against the world’s best competitors. He did it in just several months, which is 5-10 times faster than the norm.

In the first match, Astralis won 7 – 13, 4 – 13. Now they will try to do the same thing again. But this time, they’ll have to do it in front of a live audience, which is much harder. Especially for players like br0, who have limited experience with this kind of thing.

In the other semifinal, MOUZ will have a rematch against G2 Esports. The two teams met in the playoffs of PGL Copenhagen Major. G2 won that battle and now they want to teach G2 a lesson. But let’s not forget that two of the world’s best players are on their roster.

Both m0NESY and NiKo have played well in the previous matches, so there’s no reason to believe that they’ll choke in the semifinals.
