Rocket League’s Major event is going back to London – this time, in a LAN-don fashion.
Psyonix, the developer of Rocket League and a branch of Epic Games, announced that London will once again host a top-notch Rocket League competition: the Rocket League Majors 2.
It will once again be held at the Copper Box Arena – the same venue for the 2021-22 RLCS Spring Major – from June 20-23.
The Copper Box Arena previously hosted both the RLCS 2021-22 Spring Split Major, which saw Moist Esports defeat Team Falcons in the final, as well as the Season 5 Rocket League World Championship in 2018, where Justin “jstn.” Morales was able to hit a shot that forced an overtime rubber match against Dignitas in the Grand Finals.
This event is the second Major trophy of 2024 and has a US$255,000 prize pool, with the champion getting a lion’s share of the prize pool. The winner will also get RLCS points which may allow them to qualify for the Rocket League World Championship in September.
Tickets will go on general sale at 10:00 AM GMT / 3:00 AM PT on Friday, March 29th.
Back in January, tournament operator BLAST struck a multi-year deal with Epic Games to operate the RLCS, taking over from ESL. This comes amid criticisms about smaller prize pools and lesser LAN events, as well as reduced slots for the popular regions of the game such as North America and Europe, according to a report from Esports Insider.
This is the fourth major esports event to be held in the capital of the United Kingdom, with Dota 2’s ESL One Birmingham event, the first Rainbow Six Major of 2024, and the 2024 League of Legends World Championship also to be held in the same year.
The first Rocket League Major will happen in Copenhagen, Denmark, which is also currently hosting the PGL Major Copenhagen – the first Major event for Counter-Strike 2.
