In this offseason that the LCS is experiencing after the end of the spring season, several teams have begun to shuffle their options to make changes to their roster. As a result, Evil Geniuses, a team that managed to dominate the league in 2022, is considering radical changes to its roster for LCS Summer 2023.

After finishing fourth place in the spring season and failing to replicate their success in 2022 by winning the LCS Championship 2022. In addition, the organization remains under the spotlight after reports claiming that they allegedly forced Kyle “Danny” Sakamaki to play when he was not fit to play.

On top of that, remember that the organization has had different issues with its Dota 2 and CS:GO lineups in recent months.

Evil Geniuses would make major changes ahead of the summer season

All the rumors started circulating on social networks after the organization stated on its Twitter account that major changes would be made to the League of Legends squad.

In the statement, EG states that with the commitment that characterizes them in terms of the organization’s sporting performance and the development of new players, they will change their roster for the Summer Split 2023. Finally, they further state that the lineup changes are due to the results obtained in the 2023 Spring Split.

While it is true that the organization did not mention what these changes would be, the rumors increased when Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme, current Support of the team, responded to the tweet with:

“Take pride in this ratio.”

Leaked players to leave EG

A few hours after Evil Geniuses released the press release, leaks began about the players leaving the team for the Summer Split 2023. According to Alejandro Gomis, a reporter specializing in VALORANT and LoL, the organization will make four radical changes.

As we observe, the players who would leave EG in the coming days would be:

  • Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho
  • Kacper “Inspired” Sloma
  • Ian Victor “FBI” Huang
  • Vulcan

In addition, Gomis details that Inspired is exploring its options in the LCS and LEC and that EG will form its new lineup around Joseph “Jojopyun” Joon.

While it is true that the Spring Split was not all bad for Evil Geniuses, as they qualified for the playoffs and were very close to reaching the grand finals, the disappointing 0-3 loss to Golden Guardians has been a determining factor in this decision.

Future of players leaving EG

If the rumors are true and EG confirms the departure of the four players mentioned above, we will have to wait for the decision of the organization and the players regarding their future. Recall that FBI and Ssumday joined EG in November 2022 and are under contract until 2024. At the same time, the team’s ADC is under contract until 2025.

Evil Geniuses has to decide what to do with the players. For example, they could send them to the bench for the entire Summer Split and try to sell them in the offseason. On the other hand, they could also loan them to other teams or release them despite the high cost of their signings.
