Riot Games has now confirmed it is leading its own investigation against Evil Geniuses in the case of the League of Legends star Kyle “Danny” Sakamaki. The organization was recently accused of mistreating or neglecting the player however, Danny denied all these allegations against his former employer and even tweeted that the accusations are not true.

He has said that the organization has helped him deal with the physical and mental stress that esports players face. One of the reports has alleged that EG forced Danny to compete in a game even though he wasn’t feeling well and wanted to be replaced. Danny’s family is also allegedly being intimidated by EG. Now, Riot is looking into the whole thing.

Riot wants clarity

Following the player’s contradictory statements, Riot has now taken steps to investigate whether Danny was indeed mistreated. An LCS spokesperson said to Dexterto that the company is “aware of the allegations regarding the treatment of Evil Geniuses player Danny.” They also went on to say that “LCS hired an outside law firm in late 2022 to investigate the matter, which is ongoing.”

Could there be some truth to this after all? It is possible that Danny didn’t dare say anything openly against the organization at first. After all, he has a contract with them. The line between “normal” competitive pressure and psychological stress is different for everyone.

Was Danny treated badly after all?

Following reports alleging that Evil Geniuses mistreated Danny, who resigned from the LCS team in September 2022 due to mental health issues, Evil Geniuses has been the focus of critique and accusations. Dexterto’s report described how EG did not take care of Danny’s mental and physical health, despite several members of the organization and players voicing their concerns about his problems over a long period of time.

The article also revealed that EG was not willing to give Danny a break, which led to him even considering retiring from esports completely. Allegedly, the organization has always hoped to “get a large transfer fee for the player if such a deal were to happen.”

Is EG manipulating its players?

In a separate article, it is said that EG’s LCS staff is “ill-equipped to deal with mental health crises.” Among other things, it is alleged that EG management pushed for Danny to play the LCS Summer Playoffs match against Team Liquid, even though he was “unable” to compete after the “traumatic” Series against TSM, and even tried to persuade Coach Peter Dun to play in his place.

The real kicker, however, is the claim that EG is allegedly “intimidating Danny’s family and preventing them from contacting the LCS players’ association. In a statement in an article by Richard Lewis, the organization said it “cannot comment on ongoing investigations at this time.”

Danny, meanwhile, is a content creator for EG. He announced his new role on Twitter and denied the allegations. But allegedly Danny didn’t post the statement himself, only tweeted it “because EG pushed him to.” But that does make you wonder why anyone would want to continue working with the organization if these rumors were true.
