After the first European RMR for BLAST.tv Paris Major ended with some surprising results and sent FaZe Clan to the EU Decider Bracket, the second European RMR started with more surprising results and will likely prove to be a qualifier that shocks the CS:GO world.

Astralis, despite the comeback of Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz and the excellent aptitudes of Benjamin “blameF” Bremer, lost their first two matches and are now just one step away from elimination. ENCE and Team Spirit, two other competitors who were supposed to be among the favorites, are also in a similar position.

This situation guarantees that at least several strong teams will miss the Major.

Day 1 results

The teams that confirmed their strength on day 1 of European RMR B were Heroic and Team Vitality. These are the only competitors that were expected to do well and didn’t disappoint. The rest of the favorite teams played relatively poorly.

Even G2 Esports, who had to play their first match against 9INE, somehow managed to lose. Luckily for them, they won their second match of the day, against iNation. But the position they are in is still perilous. One more defeat would put them just one loss away from elimination.

G2 failed to qualify for the Rio Major. Hopefully, they won’t fail to qualify for the Paris Major. Otherwise, despite all the success that the team has experienced since December, this will prove that the roster needs to be changed again.

It’s very hard to understand what’s going on internally because in almost any other sport or esport, a team that gets exceptional results and has a world-class roster generally maintains its position near the top of the global rankings with relative ease. But in G2’s case, the swings are enormous.

One team that did much better than expected was Monte. This is Viktor “sdy” Orudzhev’s new team, and they managed to beat both ENCE and Cloud9. 9INE accomplished something similar. Their opponents were G2 Esports and BIG.

Most teams finished day 1 of European RMR B with a record of 1 W – 1 L. The most important teams on this list are presented below:

  • Cloud9
  • Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • BIG
  • G2 Esports
  • forZe

It remains to be seen what will happen on the second day of the qualifier. For the sake of the spectacle, let us hope that Astralis won’t get eliminated so early.
