ESL Pro Tour – Dota 2

On its official account for Dota 2, the ESL posted on Twitter the announcement regarding this new tournament series for this season, 2023. The official Dota 2 account said:

“We are SO excited to share our new ESL Pro Tour for Dota 2! TONNES of Dota is coming your way this year, starting with DreamLeague Season 19 on April 9!”

The ESL Pro Tour of Dota 2 announced starts with two international tournaments, DreamLeague Season 19 and DreamLeague Season 20. These will be played from April 9 to 23 and June 11 to 25, respectively. Finally, it should be noted that both events will be played online.

The teams participating in this tournament compete for the coveted berth to the Riyadh Master 2023, which has a prize purse of $15,000,000 and a share of the $1,000,000 prize pool for each event.

Format of the events

For the DreamLeague, 16 teams worldwide will be invited from all Dota 2 competitive scene regions.

The format of events will be divided into two group and knockout phases:

  • In Group Stage 1, two groups of eight teams play in a Round-Robin format, in which all matches are played best-of-two (BO2). As a result, the teams finishing first through fourth in each group advance to the next phase, while the rest are eliminated from the tournament.
  • In Group Phase 2, eight teams also play in a Round-Robin format. But with the difference that the matches are best-of-three (BO3). First and second place advance to the Upper Bracket of the playoffs, and third and fourth place to the Lower Bracket.

Finally, the playoffs will be played in a double-elimination format, where all games will be played in a best-of-three (BO3) format, except for the grand final, which will be played in a best-of-five (BO5) format.

However, the champion of the DreamLeague S19 and the finalists of the DreamLeague S20 have a direct ticket to the Riyadh Masters 2023. At the same time, five teams with the best average results between the two tournaments will also be invited directly to the Masters.
