The third day of Elite League’s group stage featured some really exciting matches, in which competitors like Team Falcons, OG, and Team Liquid displayed their skills against formidable opponents.

For Liquid, this day was an opportunity to beat Gamin Gladiators one more time, after winning against them in the playoffs of BetBoom Dacha Dubai.

Other teams, like Team Spirit and Entity, did poorly. Both of them lost their matches and will need to play much better in the coming days if they want to qualify for the playoffs. In the case of Spirit, their chances are very slim.

In their first four matches, they only won a single game. As a result, their record is 1 – 7 while every other team in their group has at least 3 game victories.

In the case of OG and Azure Ray, we’re talking about teams who have three points after just three matches. Meanwhile, Spirit played four matches. This means that the real gap might be one or two points wider.

Another thing to keep in mind is that only the top four teams in each group will qualify for the next stage of Elite League. This makes Spirit’s mission even more impossible.

Group A Results

In Group A of Elite League, G2.iG and Team Falcons are leading with a record of 6 W – 2 L. Both of them won their games by winning twice and drawing twice. What’s strange is that Falcons, who are supposed to be the strongest team in the race, drew against Spirit and HEROIC, who have been the weakest competitors in this group.

One team that’s currently ranked 4th by will likely fall much lower is PSG Quest. This team won two matches but lost three others. This means that they only have two more matches left to play. One of them will be against Team Spirit but the other will be against G2.iG.

Based on everything we’ve seen so far, the favorites in this group are Team Falcons, G2.iG, Entity, and either Azure Ray or OG.

Group B Results

In Group B of Elite League, four teams have now been beaten so far: Aurora, Team Liquid, Tundra Esports, and Xtreme Gaming. Of course, all of these teams have lost games, but not best-of-two matches. Only Liquid won two matches. Everyone else won one match or less.

For instance, Xtreme Gaming drew four times in a row. That’s a sign that they are difficult to beat. But it’s also a sign that they are not strong enough to win easily against the world’s best teams.

We don’t know at this point what would happen in a best-of-three. In principle, Xtreme should be capable of winning such matches against most opponents because they have Ame.

Three other teams with zero wins in this group are BOOM Esports, BetBoom Team, and Blacklist International. BetBoom have had a lot of poor results until this point, winning just two of their first eight games. This puts them in a delicate position.

For the SEA teams, BOOM, Blacklist, and Aurora, the challenge is to win at least a few more matches. Aurora are currently leading in this group but they’ve played one more match than Team Liquid.

The other two SEA teams are sitting at the bottom of the rankings table but could easily climb 3-4 positions if their results improve because the point differences are small.

Gaimin Gladiators continue to show us that their best days are behind them. Maybe it’s a matter of motivation or maybe the current meta doesn’t favor their playstyle. What’s clear is that they’re no longer the team that dominated the first two-thirds of 2023.

At Elite League, they lost against Liquid, drew against Xtreme and Aurora, and only won against BetBoom. The next three matches will determine their fate in this group. They will likely need at least seven points to advance to the playoffs.

Ideally, they should get eight just to make sure. Some of the other competitors could easily win two of their last three matches and surpass them.
