DRX fail to qualify for Worlds 2023

The current Worlds 2022 champions, DRX, failed in their attempt to qualify for Worlds 2023 through the LCK Regional Finals 2023 after losing to Dplus KIA by 0-3.

With this, we have the “recurring curse” present again in the next edition of the League of Legends World Championship, as the current champions are out of the tournament. As a result, DRX marks a great disappointment to all their fans, as they will not be able to defend the title. Moreover, the team becomes the sixth Worlds champion organization not to attend the next season’s Worlds.

Although the team gained a lot of popularity after winning Worlds 2022, the fact that they successfully defended the championship title was complicated. The simple fact that 4 of the 5 players who won the Worlds 2022 left the team left a lot to think about.

DRX and BeryL miss out on participation in Worlds 2023

While it is true that DRX had a disappointing season, which got worse with this news that they are missing Worlds 2023, there is no doubt that another sad news is that Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee will not be able to continue his incredible streak. Beryl has attended every Worlds played since his beginnings as a professional in the LoL scene, so this is the first time he will not participate.

Moreover, it is not only that a streak is broken but also that the tournament is without the participation of an exemplary player. In the four participations in Worlds that BeryL has accumulated so far, he made the playoffs in all of them, and, in addition, he was a finalist in three and won two. As a result, we see that BeryL was like an “amulet” for the teams he represented in the different Worlds.

On the other hand, it is also worth noting that DRX’s tormentor was Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu, DRX’s superstar in the 2022 season who is now part of the Dplus KIA lineup.

Current world champions who will attend Worlds 2023

While it is true that BeryL and DRX are missing out on Worlds 2023, other players who won with DRX in the previous edition will be present at the event.

We start with Hong “Pyosik” Chang-Hyeon, who is part of Team Liquid and got his ticket to Worlds thanks to third place in the LCS. On the other hand, it is also confirmed that we will have another reigning champion at Worlds 2023 since the fourth representative of the LCK will come out of the match between Dplus KIA and Hanwha Life Esports.

Thus, Worlds 2023 will have the participation of 1 or several players who were champions with DRX in 2022. If Dplus Kia wins, Deft will be the one to attend the top event of the LoL season. However, if HLE wins the match, Hwang “Kingen” Seong-hoo, Kim “Zeka” Geon-woo, and coach Lee “Mowgli” Jae-ha will be the ones playing in Worlds 2023.
