NaVi and FÜT Esports miss playoffs at VCT Masters Tokyo

fragster 14. June 2023

The Group Stage of the VCT Masters Tokyo is very close to the end, and we have that the EMEA region has been left with two participants in the tournament, as both NaVi and FÜT Esports were eliminated in the first phase of the tournament.

NaVi proved in this Masters Tokyo that their end of the season in the VCT EMEA League was not a coincidence, and their level of play is, right now, far below how they started the season. At the same time, FÜT Esports was much closer to qualifying, as they had to play the Decider Match. However, they could not beat DRX and are now catching a flight back to Turkey.

Let’s see what has happened so far at the VCT Masters Tokyo.

FÜT Esports fall to DRX to end their dream at the Masters Tokyo

The Turkish team’s run at this Masters Tokyo didn’t go as they dreamed it would, as EG crushed the team in their first match and then had to play for their lives in the tournament. First, they applied a reverse sweep in the Elimination Match against Attacking Soul Esports to stay alive in Masters Tokyo.

Finally, the team got a taste of their own medicine in the Decider Match against DRX, as they also applied a reverse sweep to qualify for the playoffs. As a result, the Turks could not play their best game in Japan and now have to start preparing for what lies ahead.

It is worth noting that FÜT had a somewhat inconsistent season, but, in recent weeks in the VCT EMEA League, the team looked very solid and had aspirations of at least advancing to the playoffs in the tournament.

NaVi disappoint at VCT Masters Tokyo

Undoubtedly, one of the disappointing teams of this Tokyo Masters was NaVi. This team was considered one of the spearheads of the EMEA region and was even on par with Fnatic for a long time in the EMEA League regular season. However, in the last few weeks, the team’s performance declined so much that they barely managed to qualify for Masters Tokyo.

However, in the tournament, the team was well below their level, as they lost in their first match against NRG with a score of 1-2. As a result, the team was on the ropes and had to beat EDward Gaming to stay alive in the tournament.

In the Elimination Match, NaVi tried their best to beat EDG. Although the final score was 2-0 in favor of the Chinese squad, both maps were disputed.

This elimination with a 0-2 record becomes a disappointing performance for NaVi, one of the favorites to qualify for the playoffs of this Masters Tokyo. Moreover, along with FÜT’s elimination, only two teams from the EMEA region were left alive in the tournament, Team Liquid and Fnatic, who qualified directly to the playoffs after finishing 1-2 in the VCT EMEA League.
