Since the arrival of Dota 2 patch 7.34, the meta has changed considerably. But the 7.34b version corrected some of the shifts that have occurred since then. Nevertheless, some carry heroes are exceptionally strong and should be utilized frequently if you want to gain MMR.

Among the best heroes that you can play at the moment are Riki, Wraith King and Chaos Knight. Here’s why.

Riki

Riki used to be very strong right when patch 7.33 was introduced. Then he got nerfed by its subsequent patch updates. But Dota 2 patch 7.34 made him highly successful again. At the moment, his win rate is 56%, which is surprisingly high for an invisible hero. His pick rate is also high: 12%.

Riki is played in an aggressive way: Treads -> Diffusal Blade, Manta Style, Nullifier/BKB, Aghanim’s Scepter, Dadelaus. You will likely also get an Aghanim’s Shard at some point.

This hero has excellent attributes but lacks a bit of survivability and damage. The good part is that as soon as you have your Diffusal, which should happen in the first 12-15 minutes of the game, your kill potential goes through the roof.

All you need is a level 2 Smoke Screen, Blink Strike, Tricks of the Trade, and your ultimate, Cloak and Dagger.

Riki is the kind of hero that you play when your team likes a high-tempo game. If everyone just wants to sit on your half of the map and farm, don’t pick him.

Wraith King

Wraith King received good upgrades in patch 7.34. His skeletons now deal 25% more damage to heroes and have +2 armor. That makes them quite tanky and dangerous. The hero’s first 2 talents were also buffed. But what made WK a carry that currently has a 54.5% win rate and a 11.5% pick rate were the item changes.

Desolator and Armlet got huge buffs and both of them are excellent on this hero. The new way of playing WK involves these tools and a Blink Dagger. You’re expected to be a fearless damage dealer who can bait some ultimates and kill a few heroes.

Chaos Knight

CK’s Chaos Bolt got buffed by 0.4s (minimum stun duration) and 30 damage per level. His level 10 talent now gives you a +35% lifesteal on Chaos Strike instead of +30%. Together with the buffs to the items that are usually bought by this hero, he is now a 53% win rate carry.
