Dota 2 has officially turned a decade old and fans are optimistically looking for anniversary celebration content.

Dota 2 officially premiered on July 9, 2013, following a demanding two-year testing period that enthralled millions of players worldwide. Even while the player base may have changed over time, Dota 2’s popularity as a spectator sport has stayed relatively consistent. Since October 2021, the game has regularly averaged over 450,000 daily players, according to Steam Charts.

The game’s attraction has captured the attention of both professional players and fans, elevating it to the top spot among PC esports events on Twitch. Moreover, Dota 2 is the highest-paying esports title in history thanks to The International, which gave away nearly a total of $200 million in prize money so far.

The game has cemented its position as a steadfast favorite among esports lovers thanks to its capacity to provide highly competitive matches and thrilling moments across its various regional and international circuits. Although Valve hasn’t formally commemorated its 10-year anniversary, the community still supports the game and looking forward to the update Valve has in the works.

Valve’s new direction for Dota 2

The prize money from The International has consistently shown the Dota 2 fanbase to be one of the most devoted gaming communities around. Even gamers who are too busy at work and with their families purchase the International Battle Pass to support their favorite title’s esports ecosystem.

The Battle Pass for TI was discontinued on June 20 as a result of Valve’s decision to concentrate on other content. Because 25% of the Battle Pass money was meant to be split among the 20 participating teams, this would directly impact the prize pool of the largest Dota 2 tournament of the year.

To make the revived battle pass system more accessible and to remove the paywall from it, Valve aims to completely overhaul it. While The International’s usual battle pass is probably going to undergo some hues changes, Valve promised gamers that a substitute is already in the works.

The company promises to consistently breathe fresh life into the game by releasing updates in a variety of forms more regularly going into the future. The battle pass Valve would have saved for The International will most likely be released in conjunction with Dota 2’s 10th anniversary.

Despite the official Dota 2 Steam page listing July 9 as the release date, Valve mentioned in a blog post that the update will instead probably be released in late July or early August. The International 2022 pass expired in January of this year, therefore it has also been a while since Dota 2 players received an in-game reward track.
