In many moments, saying goodbye to a professional esports player can be complicated. However, the fact that a legend decides to hang up the mouse and keyboard makes the farewell much sadder and more difficult.

In this opportunity, we have Darshan “Darshan” Upadhyaya, a 29-year-old Canadian and legend of League of Legends in NA (LCS), who has announced his imminent retirement from esports.

Undoubtedly, this is unfortunate news for LCS fans, as Darshan is and always will be one of the most successful players in the league. However, as the years went by, the Canadian lost interest in the game, deciding that he wanted nothing more to do with LoL.

Darshan announces his retirement from the competitive scene of League of Legends

Through a post on his official Twitter/X account, Darshan shared a video explaining why he retired from esports.

The video, which is just over five minutes long, explains all the reasons that led Darshan to make this decision. As we can see and hear, Darshan says that he lost the motivation to play competitively and even mentions that he is not passionate about esports anymore.

Darshan said that he wants to dedicate himself from now on to content creation, but in a completely different niche, be it art, music, or dance.

On the other hand, the former Canadian player of 100T, Cloud, CLG, and Dignitas said that even though he has a long time without opening the game, as he does not train, he does not play and much less do anything related to LoL. He also added that he is passionate about showing his fans how he is and sharing his tastes in music and art.

Similarly, Darshan was unclear about his plans, as he only commented on what he wanted to do. However, everything seems to indicate that he will dedicate himself to creating content in a completely different facet than esports.

About Darshan

Now, Darshan’s retirement marks the end of a career that lasted more than 10 years. During his career, we could also know him as ZionSpartan, and we remember that he played LoL professionally since 2012 with several teams.

However, his name came to the forefront when he was part of Team Coast in 2014, which led to him being considered by Dignitas for the LCS. However, his best moment came when he signed for CLG at the end of 2014, as from that moment, he became one of the fundamental pillars of the squad for the next 5 years.

Then, his career ended playing in several Tier 2 teams, in the academies of GGS, Cloud9, and 100 Thieves. Likewise, we cannot forget that Darshan won the LCS twice and played Worlds a couple of times. On the other hand, internationally speaking, he finished in second place with CLG at MSI 2016.
