CS2 hype pushes CS:GO towards another player record

fragster Eduardo 26. March 2023

While it’s true that CS:GO’s hours are numbered in our lives, that doesn’t mean that the game’s popularity is going to diminish. 11 years after we first played this extraordinary FPS from Valve, the game’s popularity has never looked better than it does now, as it has managed to break its record for concurrent players month after month.

Last March 14, we reported how CS:GO broke its record by reaching 1,420,183 concurrent players. Although we thought this figure would be very difficult to beat, CS:GO proved the opposite, as on March 25, it surpassed the barrier of 1.5 million concurrent players.

CS:GO breaks the new record of simultaneous players

As we mentioned, it was thought that the figure of 1.42 million players would be difficult to surpass and even more so for a video game that has been with us for 11 years. However, the game’s fan base has solidified, and we can say that it has returned after the announcement of Counter-Strike 2 on March 22nd. Thanks to this, today, Sunday, March 26, CS:GO has reached the exact figure of 1,519,457 simultaneous players.

As we can see in the Steamdb graph, the line of players has been increasing exponentially since March 22. Moreover, the maximum peak of players is 200,000 more than last month.

CS2 is the reason for this increase

There is no doubt that since the announcement of Counter-Strike 2, many players who had put aside their interest in Valve’s shooter have regained that love, and no wonder. After watching the different videos, the recent showmatch at the ESL Pro League S17, and many live broadcasts of professional players playing it, we can say that we feel like children discovering a new game.

On the other hand, Valve also announced that one of the requirements to test CS2 would be hours of gameplay on the official CS:GO servers. This, undoubtedly, has been a hook for many players to activate again to get the coveted access to the limited beta of CS2.

In addition, players are also constantly checking their CS:GO clients, hoping to see the invitation message towards this limited beta, or they are simply warming up to get their skills up to speed by the time of the official launch in the summer.

CS:GO remains one of the most popular esports.

While it is true that during these 11 years, the game has been practically the same, especially in gameplay and mechanics, the changes in graphics and weapons have kept the flame alive throughout the gaming community. It is no secret that CS:GO is one of the most popular esports in the world because who did not play when he was little games like CS 1.6 or CS: Source?

Contrarily, we can emphasize that the competitive scene has endured through the years. This is because the teams always try to have the best of the best and thus give a show to all fans.

While we can see it is very high, this new peak reached by CS:GO ensures its placement in second place of all time in terms of concurrent players. Recall that the only game with a higher peak, and its record goes back to 2017, is PUBG, which peaked at 3.2 million. However, this game has dropped so much in popularity today that, at most, its daily peak of players reaches 450,000.
