The excitement of the Gamers8 2023 festival and its CS:GO event continues, and after a second day full of action and excitement, we have Virtus.pro and G2 Esports both got victories to stay alive in the tournament.

For Virtus.pro and G2 Esports, it was their first match of the tournament, so they managed to advance to the quarterfinals.

We have undoubtedly enjoyed a great tournament so far, but the most impressive so far has been VP’s victory over FaZe Clan. FaZe’s international squad looked favored and superior to VP, but, in the end, they could not and ended up being eliminated in the tournament’s first match.

Let’s see what happened on the second day of matches in the CS:GO event at the Gamers8 2023 festival.

G2 Esports apply reverse sweep to 9INE

The day’s first match left us with an excellent victory for G2 Esports over 9INE, who had to apply a reverse sweep to stay alive in the tournament. The Polish squad put up a great fight in the series, winning the first map. However, they could not seal their victory and say goodbye to the tournament after playing only one match.

It all started in Vertigo, 9INE’s map pick, where we had a pitched battle from start to finish. G2 Esports started very well and took a partial victory in the first half by 9-6. However, this was not enough, as 9INE implemented a spectacular defense in the second half to even the score 15-15 and sent the map to Overtime. Finally, the Polish squad could take the victory by 19-17.

In the second map, Ancient, things started very balanced, as 9INE took a tight partial victory in the first half by 8-7. However, this only made G2 wake up, and with the help of Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač and Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, they came from behind to take the victory by 16-12.

Finally, the teams met in Nuke, a map that G2 started on the right foot by winning the first half 11-4. However, the Poles woke up on their TC side and started winning rounds to take a 12-15 lead. However, this was not enough, and G2 won their remaining round to take the 16-12 victory and 2-1 in the series.

Virtus.pro surprise 2-1 win over FaZe Clan

There is no doubt that the most unexpected result of this second day of matches was Virtus.pro’s 2-1 victory over FaZe Clan. After only one match, the Russian squad pulled off a reverse sweep to eliminate FaZe.

The series started in Mirage, the VP map pick, where we had an excellent performance by Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken and Håvard “rain” Nygaard from FaZe. In the first half, FaZe managed to take the partial victory by 9-6, which they took advantage of in the second half since, after 12 disputed rounds, they managed to win 7 of them to take the victory by 16-11.

However, this only made VP wake up to return the blow since things were different in the second map, Inferno. Although FaZe won the first half by 8-7, VP displayed an excellent defense in the second half to take the victory by 16-14 and even the series 1-1.

Finally, we witnessed the same score/result in Overpass as in Inferno. FaZe Clan started with a close 8-7 win on their CT side in the first half. However, again VP’s defense brought out their high level of play, and they managed to win 9 of the 15 rounds played to take the 16-14 victory.
