The first week of the Call of Duty League 2023 Major V online playoffs is now history, and OpTic Texas, Florida Mutineers, and New York Subliners closed it out with victories.

With these results, OpTic added its second tournament victory and is tied with Toronto Ultra at the top of the table. At the same time, the Mutineers and the Subliners won for the first time and hope that this is the beginning of a winning streak that will help them to be among the TOP 8 of the table and thus start in the Winners Bracket in the Major 5.

Let’s see what happened on the third day of the first week of the CDL 2023 Stage 5 Major Qualifiers online qualifiers.

Florida Mutineers deal a second blow to LA Guerrillas

What would be an exciting and intense match did not disappoint, as Florida earned a hard-fought victory over LA Guerrillas to earn their first tournament win. Moreover, this becomes the Guerrillas’ second loss, so they must wake up as soon as possible if they don’t want to remain in the pit of the table in these online qualifiers.

It all started at Hardpoint (Zarqwa Hydroelectric), where the Mutineers started with a great level of play by Javier “Vikul” Milagro to take the victory by 250-131. Then, LA Guerrillas hit back at Search&Destroy (Breenbergh Hotel), where we saw a very compact team and great teamwork. In the end, the Guerrillas managed to take the victory by 6-4.

The teams stayed at Breenbergh Hotel, but this time to play Control, where Kenyen “Capsidal” Sutton and Vikul led Florida to a comfortable 3-0 victory. However, when we all thought this would be the end for the Guerrillas, we were very wrong because, in Embassy (Hardpoint), they managed to react and gave a 250-141 thrashing to the Mutineers to tie the series 2-2.

Finally, it all came down to Embassy (Search&Destroy), where the Mutineers could pull out a narrow 6-4 victory to take these online qualifiers’ first win (3-2).

OpTic Texas continue to show an exceptional level of play

What seemed to be the most interesting match of the day between OpTic Texas and Atlanta FaZe turned out to be a complete thrashing by OpTic, who continue to show an exceptional level of play. It’s not just that they won the series against FaZe 3-0, but that OpTic looks to be playing at a much higher level than other teams in the CDL.

Al Bagra Fortress (Hardpoint) was the stage for OpTic’s first blow to FaZe in this series, as Brandon “Dashy” Otell led them to a comfortable 250-172 victory. Then, in the second map, Embassy (Search&Destroy), Atlanta FaZe tried to react with Tyler “aBeZy” Pharris, who was playing at a great level. However, Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro and Dashy were in charge of dispersing all of Atlanta’s attacks to lead OpTic to a close 6-5 victory.

Finally, at the Himmelmatt Expo (Control), OpTic Texas earned a very comfortable 3-0 victory to win their second tournament.

NY Subliners hold on to deliver a second blow to LA Thieves

The curse of the reigning champions continues, and this time, at the hands of the NY Subliners, the LA Thieves suffered their second loss of the tournament with a score of 2-3. The Subliners were far superior in the series, although they came close to giving up on the fifth map.

It all started with two convincing wins for the Subliners at Zarqwa Hydroelectric (Hardpoint) by 250-169 and Breenbergh Hotel (Search&Destroy) by 6-2. However, this only woke up the reigning Major IV champions, and they hit back in a big way to even the series 2-2 in Control at El Asilo (3-0) and Al Bagra Fortress at Hardpoint (250-212).

Finally, El Asilo (Search&Destroy) was the scene of the Subliners’ 6-2 victory, giving them the first win of these qualifiers and evens their record at 1-1.
