In the latest blow to Esports organization Complexity, star CS:GO pro Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke has been ruled out of the upcoming ESL Pro League Season 14 due to injury. The Danish veteran has an issue with his hand, with the organization having announced the news on Monday evening.

Speaking on Twitter, Complexity posted the following message: “@k0nfigCS suffered a hand injury from a minor accident this past week and is home in Denmark recovering. We will be playing with a stand-in until further notice. We wish a speedy recovery for Kristian, and look forward to playing in #ESLProLeague.”

What did k0nfig say to his injury

This was followed by a post from k0nfig, which confirmed the severity of the injury: “My wrist is broken and dislocated. I will have a surgery tomorrow morning at 07:30. A specialist will do the surgery and I will have to wear a cast for about 4-6 weeks and then some training to get back on track. I love you all, and I’m sorry. I wish I could turn back time.”

Complexity has undergone a host of roster changes over the last 12 months, with the org now looking for a stand-in for k0nfig, with time running out until the event gets underway. While no announcement has been made in this area, it has been reported that Niels Christian “NaToSaphiX” Sillassen could well return to the team once more.

Will Complexity be able to recover from k0nfig’s injury?

The 24-year-old stood in for Complexity at the ESL Pro League Season 12 Europe Playoffs last year, in the absence of Owen “oBo” Schlatter. Complexity ultimately parted ways with oBO in January this year, with the American having since joined Evil Geniuses.

The absence of k0nfig is a major blow for Complexity, with just a matter of days remaining until the team is set to debut in Group B of the ESL Pro League Season 14. The org recently announced the signings of former Cloud9 pro Patrick “es3tag” Hansen and Luis “peacemaker” Tadeu, with the duo having replaced rifler William “RUSH” Wierzba and coach Jamie “keita” Hall.

Who will Complexity face at the ESL Pro League Season 14?

With the ESL Pro League Season 14 being worth $750,000 in prize money, Complexity now face an uphill battle in reaching the latter stages. K0nfig has consistently been one of Complexity’s best performers, averaging a rating of 1.13 so far in 2021. However, the team is familiar with last minute disruption, with AWPer Valentin “poison” Vasilev having been forced to pull out of the IEM Global Challenge last year because of emergency surgery.

Alongside Complexity, Group B of the ESL Pro League Season 14 is comprised of G2 Esports, OG, Virtus.pro, forZe and Sinners. It is against forZe that Complexity will debut against on Saturday August 21.
