For a long time CoreJJ had to wait until he got his green card to continue playing at Team Liquid. But now he is temporarily replaced by the Academy player Eyla. The exact reasons for this are not known.

CoreJJ takes time off for “personal reasons”

Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in, is a South Korean League of Legends player who plays for Team Liquid and is considered a very successful player. Among other things, he won the 2017 World Championship and was named the MVP of the LCS Summer Split in 2020.

Just recently, CoreJJ got his green card so he could officially join Team Liquid, but it looks like the adventure is on hold for now. Just a week ago, the 27-year-old Korean made his debut in the 2022 LCS Spring Split. But now he’s pulling out of Team Liquid’s starting lineup again for the fourth week of the season.

CoreJJ is having a “personal issue.” It is not known what exactly it is. However, Team Liquid announced that he will not be on stage with the others in the coming week. For the time being, Australian Bill “Eyla” Nguyen, a player from Liquid’s Academy lineup, will take CoreJJ’s place on the main team for the upcoming LCS Super Week.

Eyla fills in for CoreJJ

Coach André Guilhoto also expressed confidence after the announcement, even saying he was “more than confident that Eyla and the team will do a great job this weekend and come up with three wins.” He also said that Eyla started to train with the main team this week to to get ready for the big stage.

The schedule includes matches against TSM, the Golden Guardians and Dignitas. This is not the first time Eyla has played on Liquid’s main team. Throughout the LCS 2022 lock-in tournament, Liquid had to assemble a lineup of all sorts of players, which also kept changing while the organization was waiting for CoreJJ’s visa to be approved.

At the beginning of the season, Liquid was able to impress with several wins against FlyQuest, Immortals, and Cloud9. Eyla also made a relatively good impression in his LCS debut, posting a KDA of 2.5 . Although Liquid was an absolute blast with CoreJJ, Eyla should also be reckoned with. We’ll see how Eyla does in the LCS when Liquid takes on Golden Guardians on Friday, February 25.
