It is common that many Level 2 teams that fail to meet their objectives in a season end up disbanding. Some cite financial problems, others internal problems, and many other things. However, for the best team in Oceania to disband after failing to achieve its goal this season may surprise many.

We are talking about Bonkers, one of the most important squads in the Oceania region, which decided to disband after failing to qualify for the top competitive level of VALORANT through the VCT Pacific Ascension.

This is somewhat unexpected news, as we all thought that the team would be better prepared for next season and thus return to fight for their place in the VCT Pacific League. However, we were completely wrong, and after a few days of having failed in the last tournament of the season, they announced their dissolution.

Bonkers announce its dissolution

Through a brief statement on their Twitter account, Bonkers announced that the team no longer “exists,” as they shared a post that mentions:

“it was a good run guys.”

Similarly, a short time later, some former Bonkers staff announced they are looking for a new home ahead of the 2024 season.

On the other hand, it is worth noting that Bonkers was a team that any organization did not support, so this decision may be completely expected. However, the team had a spectacular 2023 season, winning the VCT Challengers Oceania League Split 2. As a result, the team managed to qualify for the VCT Pacific Ascension.

Let’s remember that a few weeks ago, Bonkers had to ask for help from the community to support themselves daily in their preparation for the VCT Pacific Ascension. Popular content creator Tarik “Tarik” Celik even contributed $1500 to the cause.

While Bonkers’ time with VCT Ascension wasn’t all bad, as the team qualified for the playoffs, they fell in the first round to BOOM Esports 0-2. As a result, Lewis “WAT” Watson left the team’s lineup a few days later.

Bonkers says goodbye

The team’s former analyst, Aaron “Eno” Cheah, shared a post on Twitter about what the team had to go through during the past six months. In addition, he also mentioned that this lineup went from being unknown to being the best in the region.

On the other hand, this is another hard blow for the VALORANT scene in Oceania since, let’s remember that a few days ago, Michael “WRONSKI” Wronski announced his retirement from the VALORANT competitive scene. Also, remember that WRONSKI was the only player from this continent playing at the highest competitive level.

Finally, it is worth noting that any organization did not support Bonkers and five other VALORANT Challengers Oceanic League Split 2 teams. As a result, keeping themselves competing and, above all, paying their players and coaches is an extremely complicated task.

Now we have to wait and see what will happen to the VALORANT scene in Oceania and if other teams that any organization does not support will leave.
