After the bad result in the last few days in the first big Riot Games partnership era event, the VCT LOCK//IN Sao Paulo 2023, Cloud9 is reconsidering changing its roster.

The North American organization did not take kindly to the elimination in the second round of the tournament in Brazil against the South Korean team DRX with a score of 2-1. As a result, there is a possibility that the organization is seriously considering making radical changes to the roster.

Rumors place yay outside Cloud9

According to freelance esports journalist Max Katz, rumors place Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker out of the Cloud9 lineup.

These rumored changes to Cloud9’s VALORANT lineup could affect any player. This means that not even their star player, yay, would be safe. However, the organization has not yet made any comments public, and all they have posted was a picture on their Twitter account quoting:

“emergency meeting”

We don’t know if this has something to do with the future of the staff at VALORANT or if it is simply a move to point the spotlight elsewhere.

The organization did not expect to be eliminated so early in the VCT LOCK//IN

Undoubtedly, the turning point has been this early elimination of the VCT LOCK//IN Sao Paulo 2023 team. The team had very high expectations and expected to be strong candidates to be in the final matches. However, let’s remember that the format, for many unfair, is single elimination, which means that a loss sends you to home no matter when you suffer it.

The mid-season VCT transfer window will be between March 6 and 25, 2023. So, teams have plenty of time to make their moves for the upcoming international league. C9, undoubtedly, would be one of these teams that decide to make radical changes, maybe to release and sign some players or move their chips internally. First, however, remember that this North American team has seven players in its lineup.

Cloud9 has not been up to the task

This “super team” that Cloud9 put together for this 2023 VCT season has not been up to the task. Remember that yay was named the best VALORANT player in the world in 2022.

With this lineup, C9 took second place at the Red Bull Home Ground in December and now was eliminated in the second round of the VCT LOCK//IN by DRX.

Now, we must wait for the official announcement (if any) from Cloud9 regarding what will happen to their lineup. However, let’s remember that now the team will have a long break, as their next match will be on March 26, when the VCT Americas starts.
