Blizzard mitigates damage with free Overwatch 2 goodies

Anyone who attempted to play Overwatch 2 in the first week after the game’s release most likely faced endless errors, bugs, and crashes stemming from the numerous DDoS attacks and overloading issues, coupled with major bugs.

A week after launch, the game still faces a variety of errors and bugs, including the fact that some players have their heroes locked as if playing for the first time, which was only intended for players who have never played before. Furthermore, LC-208 errors that arise when merging accounts and bugs that plague the game are still occurring.

Goodies as compensation

To apologize for the frustrating launch and stability issues, players will receive in-game goodies as compensation. All players who log in between October 25 and the end of Season 1 will receive a new legendary skin for the cursed Captain Reaper and a weapon charm with a health pack.

Players will see these items when they log in for the first time during this time window. Additionally, the Overwatch developers are planning several Double Match XP weekends to help players with their Battle Pass progression, but no dates have been announced as of yet. Blizzard’s blog post states that there will be multiple 2X Match XP weekends, but the exact dates for those weekends are yet to be confirmed.

Situation is getting better

While there are still quite a few issues with Overwatch 2, most players are at least able to play without queues or too many game-breaking bugs. With Double Match XP Weekends, players should be able to make up for lost time and get their Overwatch 2 Battle Passes up to where they would have been, had they been able to play during downtime.

The game is in a much better state than before, but the list of issues that players have encountered since the launch is impressive. That’s why Blizzard is being so generous at the moment compared to how stingy the overall Overwatch 2 Battle Pass is.

Here’s Blizzard’s statement on what to expect if you’ve logged into the game between launch and October 25:

“We apologize for any issues players have had around launching the game. To make up for lost time, we are planning several Double Match XP weekends: we will be confirming the exact dates for these weekends soon.

We’ll also be gifting a brand new Cursed Captain Reaper Legendary skin and Health Pack weapon tag to all players who log in between October 25th and the end of Season 1. These items will become part of your collection the first time you log in during this time slot.”
