Bjergsen leaves Team Liquid, might join 100T with Doublelift

Following a dismal LCS season, Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg, Team Liquid’s renowned mid-laner, has officially left the North American organization.

The North American organization Team Liquid and star mid-laner Bjergsen have officially parted ways. The move comes in response to Liquid’s catastrophic 2022 campaign, during which the team recorded lackluster results in the LCS Spring and Summer Split. LCS fans were thrilled to see Bjergsen playing with one of the League’s most talented teams, Team Liquid, after his comeback to professional play with them for the 2022 season.

The star-studded Team Liquid lineup, which included Gabriël “Bwipo” Rau and star ADC Steven “Hans sama” Lin alongside Bjergsen, fell short of what fans and the organization had hoped for. The team failed to secure a spot in any international competition. Following a third-place finish in the LCS Spring Split, they missed the Mid-Season Invitation, which was held in Korea. The team’s heartbreaking loss to Evil Geniuses during the Summer Split, which resulted in a fourth-place finish, was the ultimate blow.

It ended Liquid’s chances of competing in the 2022 World Championship and influenced the organization to reevaluate its roster for the upcoming season. With Hans Sama’s departure earlier in September, the super team that the organization assembled ahead of the 2022 season has already broken up. The organization clearly indicates that a significant makeover is underway now that the renowned mid-laner also has left.

Can Bjergsen’s legacy get him a spot in another LCS team?

Although Bjergsen began his career in Europe in 2012, he has established himself as one of the best mid-laner in the LCS during his time with the North American organization TSM. He put on incredible performances during his nearly eight-year tenure at TSM, establishing the bar high for LCS mid-laners and accomplishing many individual records. His list of accomplishments includes multiple LCS titles, MVP awards, and the record for the most kills in LCS history.

Keeping his legacy alive in LCS, Bjergsen might potentially join 100 Thieves alongside Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng, who is apparently coming out of retirement in 2023. According to reports from independent journalist Travis Gafford, several teams are vying for Doublelift’s services, but 100 Thieves has stood out from the competition. Although nothing is confirmed, the report state that Mingyi “Spica” Lu would also join Doublelift and Bjergsen in the 100 Thieves roster as the organization intends to assemble a superteam before the 2023 season. Alan “Busio” Cwalina, a 19-year-old rookie support who has been a member of the 100T since 2021, is said to be the final player on the roster.
