In the lower bracket of MSI 2023, the second-best team in China gave G2 Esports a lesson in high-level League of Legends. The match between the two teams ended with a score of 3-1 and was quite exciting to watch despite the monotonous drafts.

Bilibili Gaming used their classic combination of champions, while G2 did the same. It felt as though the two teams played some of the games multiple times. They obviously had great confidence in their drafts and weren’t worried about getting countered.

Ultimately, the result of each game was determined by map movements and team-fighting prowess. The LPL team won, proving that regions like China and South Korea are still far ahead of the rest of the world.

Bilibili vs. G2: 3-1

Game 1 started well for Bilibili, who drew first blood at minute 4 and increased their gold advantage to 3600 by minute 12. G2 were close to bringing the situation back to normal, but their small victories were eventually crushed by their opponents.

As soon as G2 showed their cards and how they want to play them, Bilibili found their strategy’s weak point and won with ease. The last important moment of the game happened around minute 18. After that, there was nothing left for G2 to do.

Many of the champions that were picked in game 1 continued to be picked in games 2 and even 3. For Bilibili, these champions were Lulu and Aphelios. For G2, they were Maokai and Jinx.

Quite surprisingly, after a dominant game 1, Bilibili were defeated in game 2. The battle lasted for 37 minutes, which is considered to be a lot in LoL. G2’s Jinx finished with a score of 8 K – 1 D – 5 A while their Maokai played a nearly perfect game as well: 1 K – 1 D – 12 A.

This second game had a huge comeback. At minute 21, the Chinese team was 7400 gold ahead and the battle looked over. But in just three minutes, G2 punished their mistakes and erased almost their entire networth advantage. From there, their champion composition proved to be stronger.

The last two games were once again full of surprises. One team seemed to be winning, until the other one won. In both cases, Bilibili were the ones who managed to save an apparently lost battle. G2 tried their best and were close to being victorious, but their opponents’ superior experience sent them home.
