South America is now a very competitive Dota 2 region. Beastcoast proved to be the best team but their path to victory was not easy. With organizations like Evil Geniuses and Alliance.LATAM competing in the same region, it’s a serious challenge to beat everyone and go to the Major undefeated.

And yet, beastcoast did exactly that and proved to be a likely contender for the trophy. At the Lima Major, they will face a lot of tough opposition from Western Europe, Eastern Europe, and other parts of the world.

Beastcoast’s road to success

Beastcoast started the new season with a slightly modified roster. The previous one finished seventh-eight at The International 11 but the new one looks even stronger. At the end of last season, Jean “Chris Luck” Salazar and Adrian “Wisper” Dobles left the organization and joined Evil Geniuses.

They were immediately replaced with two Thunder Awaken players: Gonzalo “DarkMago” Herrera and Rafael “Sacred” Yanatan. Both of them proved to be incredibly strong. And we knew they were strong even before they joined beastcoast, because of what they had achieved while representing Thunder Awaken.

Their team finished fifth-sixth at The International 11, which was a spectacular result – the best in the history of South American Dota.

With their new lineup, beastcoast not only went undefeated for seven consecutive matches. They only dropped two games in total. More importantly, in their direct match against Evil Geniuses, they won with a score of 2-0 and proved to be extremely resilient. In both games, they had to make a significant comeback to win.

Other results in the region

The South American region was dominated by beastcoast and Evil Geniuses. The rest of the teams were far behind them in skill and results. EG finished Tour 1 of DPC 2023 with a record of 6 W – 1 L. The next best team was Alliance.LATAM, whose record was 3 W – 4 L. Three more teams had the exact same record.

At the other extreme, Infamous finished Tour 1 with one win and six losses. Ravens also relegated with two wins and five losses.

This is a sign that the region is divided into three categories: the formidable teams, the striving teams, and the struggling teams. And the first category is so far ahead of the rest that it’s impossible to imagine how the teams in it will get bested in the near future.
