All The BEST Games Coming Soon To Nintendo Switch

While Nintendo has yet to officially announce the Switch’s replacement, the hybrid portable device almost eight years old does not look like it’s cooling down in 2024. Switch users will also have an impressive pipeline of new game releases throughout the year.

Nintendo unveiled a number of the most anticipated Switch games for 2024 at its Direct Partner Showcase last February. Switch fans will find plenty to swoon over this year, ranging from significant third-party ports to hidden indie gems and Switch first-party exclusives.

Mario and Friends Keep the Party Going

Nintendo’s iconic mascots will remain a core part of the Switch lineup in 2024. Mario enthusiasts can anticipate playing the recently released Mario vs. Donkey Kong game as well as the upgraded Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. The true star, however, is Princess Peach – who on March 22 is going to get her first lead role in Princess Peach: Showtime.

This 3D platformer lets Peach don various costumes that give her new abilities while she wanders through a haunted theater. It’s a welcome chance for the frequently kidnapped princess to take the spotlight and show off her adventuring skills.

Her slightly spookier sidekick Luigi will also return in the remastered Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD on June 27th. Ghost-vacuuming action returns in a revamped 3DS hit Dark Moon – this time with online and local multiplayer modes.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble, which launches June 25 with online multiplayer for up to 16 players, is another treat for fans of fast primate platforming. The perennial Another Code series returns with a simple entry called Another Code.

Huge Third-Party Games Come to Switch

Nintendo’s mascots are always popular, but 2024 also sees some big third-party support for the Switch. After years of delays, Metroidvania Hollow Knight: Silksong is still scheduled for release at some point this year.

The Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed remake breathes fresh life into the beloved Disney Epic Mickey character, offering enhanced visuals and new techniques for using Mickey’s enchanted paintbrush. And Atlus is releasing Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, which adds a meaty 80+ hour story path to the acclaimed JRPG.

First-party Xbox hit Grounded is also being ported to Switch on April 16, letting players shrink down and survive in a perilous backyard wilderness online with friends. The Obsidian-developed survival adventure should be a perfect fit for the Switch’s co-op capabilities.

Indie Hits and Classic Remasters

The indie scene continues thriving on Switch as well. EA’s gorgeous Metroidvania Tales of Kenzera: Zau blends African mythology with environmental themes when it arrives on April 23. The beloved time-warping platformer Braid gets an Anniversary Edition with new content on April 30. The cult classic Freedom Planet series brings its Sonic-inspired speed and style to Switch with Freedom Planet 2 on April 5.

While it’s light on details, the Pokemon Legends: Z-A is targeting a 2025 release set in the modern metropolis of Lumiose City. Nintendo also hinted at a return to the Professor Layton puzzle series, although its new entry Professor Layton and the New World of Steam doesn’t have a release date yet.

There are also some interesting remasters of classic fan favorites coming your way. The original Star Wars: Battlefront games are being remastered in the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection for release on March 14, adding online multiplayer for up to 64 players.

On the Nintendo front, the classic GameCube RPG Endless Ocean is being revived and expanded into the new online co-op adventure Endless Ocean: Luminous on May 2. Fans stuck in the past can re-experience the Nintendo DS game Fantasy Life when Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time hits Switch on October 10.

The Switch’s 2024 May Be Its Last Hurrah

With the first wave of 2024 Switch games now dated, Nintendo may have given us our clearest look yet at this aging console’s potential swan song. While huge first-party releases like the Breath of the Wild sequel or Metroid Prime 4 could still be waiting in the wings, 2024 seems primarily focused on giving existing franchises one last hurrah on the Switch before a successor presumably arrives in 2025.

From that perspective, Nintendo is ensuring the Switch goes out with a bang rather than a whimper. March through June is stacked with heavy hitters like Princess Peach, Star Wars Battlefront, Grounded, and so many more. Later in the year, intriguing exclusives like Fantasy Life and the Yokai Watch 4 localization could keep the good times rolling.

If the Switch is indeed entering its final year before the next hardware generation, Nintendo looks determined to make it one to remember for fans new and old. Whether you prefer classic franchises or fresh takes on proven formulas, the 2024 Switch library truly seems to have a game for every type of player.

Of course, we still don’t know if or when Nintendo plans to unveil the Switch’s successor just yet. But regardless of what the future holds, this deluge of upcoming Switch games should keep players more than satisfied throughout 2024 as the system potentially begins riding off into the sunset. The Switch’s trail may be nearing its end, but it will blaze brilliantly until the very last light.
