Activision announce a new tournament to define the “king” of COD

What everyone in the Call of Duty community always wants is for the best of the best to face off in a single tournament. While it is true that the Call of Duty League offers us very intense competition, these matches are played in multiplayer mode, that is, in the different game modes such as Hardpoint, Search&Destroy, etc. However, we rarely have a tournament in Warzone, the game’s Battle Royale.

This time, Activision decides to give new airs to the competitive scene, taking advantage of the fact that CDL players are on vacation to organize a tournament to define the “King” of Call of Duty. In this tournament, we will have the participation of professional players and the most popular Warzone content creators.

Activision announces tournament between CDL pros and Warzone content creators

Through a post on its Twitter account, Activision announced a $150,000 tournament pitting professional CDL players and Warzone content creators against each other.

As we note, the tournament will be “split” into 5 events, with the first starting next August 16, 2023, and a prize pool of $20,000. The following three events will be the same, i.e., offering $20,000 in prizes each. Finally, on September 1, 2023, we will have the final event, where players will fight for the $70,000 prize.

However, the only information we have regarding this tournament is the prize pool and the schedule of the five events. Likewise, there is no doubt that this tournament will answer a big question that many in the community have about who is better, the CDL pros or the Warzone content creators.

The community receives the tournament positively

As we mentioned, Activision did not give any information regarding the format that will be used in the tournament. Still, there is no doubt that the community, whether fans or professional players, positively received the news.

On the other hand, this tournament may also fill the void currently in the CDL offseason and the wait for the World Series of Warzone Global Finals.

Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro, the OpTic Texas superstar of the Call of Duty League, said he was interested in competing in this tournament.

On the other hand, James “Crowder” Crowder, the Head Coach of Atlanta FaZe and popular Warzone content creator, praised this initiative and said that this was the kind of content needed in the COD scene.

As mentioned, the first event starts next August 16, 2023, and can be followed through COD’s social networks, and you can watch it on COD’s official Twitch channel.
