2K Games is rumored to be working on a new game that will most likely be free-to-play and will compete directly with Rocket League.

According to industry insider Tom Henderson, the new game, now titled Gravity Goal, is being developed to threaten Rocket League’s monopoly on the exceedingly narrow but profitable vehicular sports combat hybrid field.

As per the report by Henderson, Gravity Goal is surprisingly similar to Rocket League in terms of its current design, in which players chase after a ball and attempt to score a goal by hitting it with their supercars.

Although the game mode remains similar to rocket league, it reportedly replaces Psyonix’s signature cars with Tron-like bikes. The Gravity Goal game will include modes like one-vs-1, two-vs-2, and three-vs-three matchmaking formats but on a Tron bike of course. The replacement of traditional four wheels with the super cool and futuristic Tron is a fantastic way to revolutionize the interesting vehicle combat format.

To make it more interesting, 2K is also apparently incorporating the Identity Disc concept from the Tron franchise into the game. Although the vehicle would be different, the experience and excitement of the orthodox ball-on-wheels remain intact.

The discs will provide players with a unique throwable weapon to cause damage to rival players while chasing the ball, as well as the ability to slow or halt vehicles. These variables are largely influenced by the vehicle speed at which the disc is thrown, and as the vehicle speeds up or slows down, the weapon’s damage increases or decreases.

Gravity Goal Release Date

Gravity Goal hasn’t been given any additional information, and 2K hasn’t confirmed its existence. However, if this report is accurate, the game was in closed alpha in late 2021, so you can expect a release for PC, Xbox Series S|X, and PlayStation 5 soon.

Last year, Take-Two Interactive disclosed that the business expects to release 93 different games, and 62 of them are set to be released by the end of April 2024. Gravity Goal appears to be one of the 26 games that will be available for free to play.

Rocket League has been a great success since its introduction in 2015. The company has subsequently cooperated with the likes of Fast and Furious and NASCAR on special in-game events. This reason alone justifies why 2K wants a piece of the pie.
